Fantasy: A Completely Conservative USA

Let's explore what that type of country would look like; how it would function.

Abortion would be illegal, and in fact, most types of birth control would be illegal and/or unavailable to the majority of women. What would be the results of that? Would we suddenly be transported into a wonderful world where everyone has a father named Ozzie and a mother named Harriet?

Gays/Lesbians/Transgendered are guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States to forever be "second-class" citizens who may not enter into marriage. Strengthening "marriage" by weakening the Constitution would be acceptable. Would we now have a greater opportunity to return to the wonderful world of Ozzie and Harriet? What would the results be?

Since there is no way that social programs will be able to compete for dwindling dollars during a perpetual war, programs will be cut and/or eliminated entirely. What will be the results? What effects will this have on those in retirement who no longer have Social Security and Medicare? Would this have the result of strengthening families, because Granny and Gramps would need to move in with the kids? Housing assistance slashed. Well, surely everyone has a family member to move in with? Health care? Only if you are able to afford it. If you can't afford it, then you don't deserve it. Higher education is for the higher classes. Others should not waste society's time by attempting to climb the economic ladder. What would the results of these cuts in social programs be? Would Ozzie and Harriet be proud?

Dissent will not be tolerated. All must sign a pledge of support for the leaders. Even the humble household, with 2 heterosexual parents and 2.5 children has dissent at times. Ozzie and Harriet could tell you that. How would this work? What are the results?

Peace is only a concept. War is a reality. Would Ozzie have sent his sons to fight in Iraq (or the next planned battlefield?)

There is a single religion with the one true God in this country, and those who think otherwise are simply mistaken. That is the way it must be, and will remain. What are the results?

Minorities have a place in society, but they will have no ability to raise their societal status. No more ACLU, no more NAACP, no more Civil Rights Act. What are the results?


This is what "conservatives" want to occur, whether they are capable of seeing clearly anymore or not. This is what their leaders wish to accomplish, and these are the people that vote for them.

Those who vote for this type of country are foolish/manipulated/greedy/narrow-minded/cruel/thoughtless and/or evil.

3. No jobs, no education system, no social safety net,

you're talking overflowing prisons, 30% or more unemployment,
bad food, dirty water, no power.

It would be time for "revolution" with pitchforks and molotov

4. Power would be turned over to the fundies

Fundie churches would be given massive funding to replace the slaughtered social programs. They would take care of the poor and elderly - but only if you switched to fundie religion, and were the right colour and race.

Fundies don't believe in mental illness, so the entire mental health profession would be declared illegal. Massive "Christian camps" would be created where people would for forcibly baptised then indoctrinated with fundyism (no, I refuse to call it Christianity) by torture if necessary.

The GLBT community would be outlawed and sent to jail then fundie camp. Lesbians would be raped until they "like straight sex".

Dissent would be illegal. It would be called "disorderly conduct" and you would be sent to jail then fundie camp.

The average city would have its population isolated by demographic. There would be massive ethnic ghettos with a fundie church on every street corner. All jobs and social programs would be dispensed by the fundie church. Ethnic people would be forced out of the better neighbourhoods and their houses sold at bargain basement rates to white people.

Ethnic people would have difficulty getting any job, nevermind a good one. Affirmative action would be declared illegal and any ethnic job filled under affirmative action would be declared an "illegal hire" and filled by a white person. Paperwork would magically appear proving that any ethnic-filled position was an "illegal hire".

The single exception to this would be low-paying service jobs; sanitation, food services, low-grade construction. All "management jobs", even shift supervisor at McDonalds would be white. No ethnic person would be allowed to supervise a white employee.

All police and military positions would be white. They would be issued flak jackets as daily wear. There might be a few ethnic positions to patrol the ghetto, but they would be under white supervision. Ethnic positions would be filled from the local fundie church.

Health care would be segregated. No white person would be expected to share hospital resources with an ethnic person. Current state hospitals would be funded by the fundie churches and used for ethnic patients. The better hospitals would be white-only.

Ethnic people would be refused:

• abolution of sexual harassment regulations
  
• no such thing as "domestic disturbance". If there's a fight, punish the wife
  
• adoptions allowed by fundies only
  
• no sexual education in schools except abstinence only
  
• no female principals or vice-principals
  
• no female phys-ed classes or teachers
  
• female school uniforms - "Sailor moon" suits

Women had to be examined every three months for pregnancy. No birth control, no abortion.

Remember all the stories about the Romanian orphans? That is why. All they could do was lay them on the floor so that they would be touching the infant next to them, because there were so many children they could not give them care.

In an entirely conservative society the conservatives would have nothing to do but start attacking each other. Their greed and social darwinistic mentality would quickly devolve into violence. It wouldn't be long before they started to eat their own children.

To understand what conservatives want, and the road Bush has us on, a quick read of 1984 is in order. Orwell's message wasn't based on nothing. It's very real and conservatives are bringing us closer and closer to what he warned us of.
