Natalie Portman told to hide Kerry T-shirt by ABC
There are equal time rules now?! Oh boy do they owe us a lot of time!

Midway through the TV interview, Sawyer told Portman, "Now if I'm gonna talk to you, you're gonna have to hold flowers here in front of the John Kerry (T-shirt). We can't just have John Kerry the whole time.

5. I saw that interview
and Natalie Portman was awesome. Sawyer did her usual simpering, fake-ass thing, insisting Portman hold the flowers, but Portman wasn't having any of it. She not only put the flowers down, she made an amazing off the cuff endorsement of John Kerry. She was sweet and sincere and optimistic, and made Sawyer look like a nagging witch.

14. I think you should ...

And I think that all people opposed to Bush should LOVE the first two films. A thoughtful analysis will find MANY Orwelian/Machievellian/Goebelian similarities between Palpatine and Bush.

Both have essentially manufactured a security crises in order to create a pretense for consolidation of power and limiting individual freedoms. They both have used these situations to increase their own power and marginalize their enemies. Both politicians have effectively divided his own opponents and compelled them to fight each other under and illusion when the ultimate goal was the dimunition of both factions (of course, this tactic goes back to secession when poor white folk were pitted against poor black vote on behalf of the southern slave-holding aristocracy).

So many people misunderstand Episodes 1 and 2 because they are POLITICAL films instead of space westerns (but I'll concede that Jar-Jar was stupid and annoying). Lucas has provided us a deep commentary on how Democracy can be twisted into dictatorship. It's unsurprising to me that a generation that has known no great threat would not see the subtext of this film that the greatest evil may come from within.

18. Eps 1 and 2 are certainly more relevant now than
they were when they came out.

Maybe I'll rent them again to see if I get the political
subtext.

Hmmm.

9. I saw it
What a freaking riot.

Natalie followed up singing Kerry's praises for a couple of minutes.

And listen. I
LOVE John Kerry as a candidate for POTUS. I've supported him from the day he announced. And it was so good to hear someone (a gorgeous someone, too) express the same sentiment.

I don't support Kerry ecause I'm ABB, I support Kerry because he's good man and he'll make a great President.

17. I'll bet you 'feel better' having said that!
And in spite of the reference, I mean that in a friendly way.

I want to send a letter to ABC saying that I had an argument over this item and was supporting their "equal time" BS so can they please cite the law they are working under since the fairness doctrine was in fact struck down. And throw in a line like "my friend said you guys were either idiots or Bush supporters" I have gotten responses to 'friendly' letters like these in the past.
