"Official" Dallas to Flower Mound, TX bumper sticker survey results
Methodology: The survey was conducted July 18 - August 1 during daily commutes from Flower Mound, TX (Slogan: "My Hummer's bigger than yours")to Dallas. Poll results include all instances of bumper stickers actually observed while simultaneously trying not to ram into cars while squinting at occasionally too small stickers.

And drum roll, please...

Progressive messages: 4
Kerry bumper stickers: 6
Bush bumper stickers: 16
Religious messages*: 40

* Includes the "godfish" symbols every "Christian" in Texas is apparently required to display to prove their righteousness.

Yes, folks, Texas (excepting Austin) is a hellhole.

And today we have a "red alert" for air quality. Lovely.

training for a 400 mile cycling trip. Fuck, I can even breath. IT's like 100 degrees with heat index of 110. I can ride in these conditions.

3. I thought they'd lynch you
for a Kucinich sticker in Lewisville.

The things that astounds me is the number of religious icons...why do people feel the need to display their religiosity?

8. Pentagrams
Edited on Tue Aug-03-04 08:58 AM by October
are not Satanic; some Christians just want everyone to think so. Wiccans do not even believe in the devil.

On Edit:
PS - I ordered my vinyl bumpersticker "DEM," and a lawn sign, Kerry sticker, and Kerry lapel pin. Can't wait till they arrive.

I used to be a little worried about showing my Democratic pride (living in a republican area and all), but not any more.

10. Agreed
Oh, I agree. But my aim would simply be to piss off the self-righteous-- apparently 90% of the North Dallas population.

15. I understand completely
Pentagrams will do the job.

Keep fighting -- you're in a tough place.
At least I'm in Yankee land.

7. Two Great Sticker I Recently Saw...
One in Big Letters: JESUS LOVES YOU. In letters below..."too bad you voted for Bush, you can be forgiven in November"...the other "Enlightened Christians For Kerry". Made me smile.

I've posted this before on the lack of Bunnypants yard signs and bumper stickers in my heavily Repugnican area of Pleasant Valley Sunday. The Regunicans were in hiding during the 4th of July parade and keeping a very low profile.

A good reason they are. Bunnypants was never overwhelmingly popular here (the (R) means more than the candidate) and many didn't either get their full tax cut or saw their jobs and savings vanish over the past 3 years. They're conflicted as they are so conditioned to vote GOOP and it's like eating their arm to vote otherwise. I hope they stay home in November.

Also having a destroyed Senate race (still no GOOP candidate) and being ignored by not only the nation, but the state party, is starting to create some very unhappy campers in GOOPerville. I'm hoping our work here on the Congressional level will bear fruit as we take down our decrepid do-nothing Repugnican alcholic Congressman (Crane) and elect Melissa Bean. We always can use more help!

11. Long Time Chicagoan
And damn do I miss it!

Do you really think there is a chance to defeat Phil Crane?? That would be awesome.

I know I've been contributing to Richard Morrison, who is running against Tom Bugboy DeLay...hope springs eternal.

14. Crane's Very, Very Beatable
There was a story in our local Daily Herald (I've looked for it online, it hasn't been made available), that says the GOOP officials are torn about supporting Crane or letting him hang. 30 years of being a corporate shill while ignoring even your local friends is coming home to roost.

Crane's an embarassment to this area, but kept getting a free pass on his "seniority". People now see it's gotten this area nothing and if there was a time for a change it is now.

The district is a problem as it stretches from Hanover Park to the Wisconsin border and is a media nightmare to reach. That's why lots of foot soldiers and dollars could really make a difference here.

I strongly urge other DU'ers to take a look at this race and at this fine candidate. She'd be a great companion for other great Illinois Democrats like Jan Schakowski, Rahm Emmanuel, Jesse Jackson III and our Senators Obama & Durbin.

Here's her website. Your help is greatly appreciated.

BTW...I am not a member of the campaign staff or anything more than a very concerned Democrat who wants the best for my district.

Cheers!

9. You can thank Gov. Bu$h for that chokin' smoke in the air.
Texas industries have the luxury of voluntary clean air compliance, thanks to Bu$h. When I moved to Dallas in 1996, the air was relatively clean. There were deep blue skies and crystal clear nights for star gazing. When I left Dallas in April 2004, there were few nights that it was even worth dragging the telescope out on the back deck.

The air pollution began to become worse after he became governor and laxed the rules. He is responsible for this crap!!!!! I hate the man. I really do. And Gov. Goodhair just keeps on with the same crap policy!

16. What's the ratio of cars with stickers to cars with no stickers?
Here in Seattle it's pretty low. I did a count walking in downtown Seattle on the way to a union rally. I did a random count of the first 100 cars. 97 had nothing. One had a Kerry sticker and the Human Rights Campaign "=" sign. Another had a union sticker, and the third had a small window flag decal.
