Question: is George W a hunter?
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 04:26 PM by chookie
I mean hunter as in a person who pursues the sport of stalking and killing game animals. (I do not consider killing frogs with firecrackers traditional "hunting".)

I know that Cheney is one, even if some of his hunts have been shown to be "canned" to ensure he walks away with many trophies.

I also know that John Kerry is a hunter. George HW Bush is a hunter. Michael Moore is a hunter.

But is George W? I don't recall ever hearing this. We see him out in his boat fishing, and falling off bicycles, and clearing brush, and looking ridiculous in jogging shorts. But does anyone know whether he hunts as sport?

(Just curious. This point was raised when a LTTE in Pittsburgh recently ridiculed the idea that an appeasing girlie boy like John Kerry could be a hunter -- even though, um, he is.)

5. You laugh, but...
this very same thought crossed my mind. It's bad enough that innocent Americans are being killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, without being accidentally killed by the Commander in Chief during a hunting trip. Seriously though -- I would be very nervous about this white-knuckled dry drunk who can't manage to stay up on a Sedgeway having a rifle in his hands.

6. What, he sure looks competent here, no?

Actually, wasn't there a story last year some time about him shooting an endanged specie of bird or something?

7. Thanks for answering the question
I *should* have remembered this story about the endangered bird hunt.

But I think I can be at least partially excused for forgetting about this because I may have seen this photo and not noticed it because I mistook it for a cell from a WB cartoon of Elmer Fudd, and gotten the two "hunters" confused.

20. In 1994 Smirk tried to outmacho Ann Richards, who can handle a .410,by
going on a quail hunt.He wound up bagging a killdeer, which is a protected species.Pretty pathetic, and reminiscent of his father crowing about "kicking a little ass" regarding his debate with Geraldine Ferraro.

He really looks comfortable handling a shotgun in the photo you supplied.

11. well, all of the hunters I know ...
... hold their fire until they're sure of the species of bird -- and are certain of a clean kill.

(I'm not a hunter or a birdwatcher, and I can still tell the difference between a dove and a "killdee" on the wing!)

And none of them go on "canned hunts" like Big Dick and Tony Supremo!

If I were going up North and needed a refresher course on gun safety, I'd feel more confident asking John Kerry, Al Gore, or Michael Moore. I believe all of those men have the knowledge and are responsible without being snarky or condescending. George W. reminds me too much of the guy at the Arctic research station who used to point his bear rifle at the truck's gas tank and yell "Boom!" just to get a rise out of me.

Apparantly, this kind of big-game hunting is extremely perilous.

13. While Governor of Texas, Bush accepted the Governor of the Year Award
from Safari Club, International in 1999. Safair Club Int. is an organization that promotes big game hunting throughout the world, including the killing of endangered species. Poppy Bush appeared at their annual banquet to accept his son's award. The annual banquets feature a menu of some of the game animals hunted by the organization, including lion, rhino, elephant, and monkey. I used to have a menu of their annual banquet because my uncle was hired as their chef one year. He couldn't take it, as it involved the killing and dressing of some of these animals. He said spider monkeys shriek like humans when you kill them and their meat smells like urine when cooked.

Bush received the "Governor of the Year" award from this big game hunting organization because Texas under Bush became the world's capital for canned hunts and for relaxed rules regarding the killing of wild species of animals. These sick affairs known as trophy hunts often involve the purchase by organizations of old or sick circus and zoo animals that are penned and shot at point blank range by hunters, so they can pose with a trophy carcass and mount an exotic animal's head on their wall. Safari Club International is sick, sick, sick and Bush accepted their award.

16. the fact that John Kerry is a big hunter
is one of his major drawbacks, to me.

Whether you are against hunting or not though, you should still oppose these "canned hunts" for endangered species, as in the Bush and Cheney Safari Club. I really hope Kerry doesn't do that kind of hunting.

17. I don't mean to be flip, but...
I would definitely classify him as more of the jackal type. Others hunt and kill and he comes in "after market" and feeds on the carrion.

19. quite an image ...
I can just picture him squatting next to the carcass, whining because it's cold and all the best parts have already been eaten. Then he freaks out because he suddenly realizes the bottle of sauce he's squirting onto it is "Heinz" -- and meanwhile, a vulture sneaks up and gives him a good peck!

22. Bush is one guy that I would not want to go hunting with.
He seems very uncoordinated and the type of person that would shoot at the first bit of movement without knowing exactly what he is shooting at. He also seems like the type of person that would shoot any animal regardless whether it was game or not. I can easily envision him unloading 4 shells of buckshot into a mockingbird and then soliciting compliments on his hunting prowess.

27. I disagree
I disagree, at least in part.

He DOES seem like the guy who would waste a mockingbird (a sin, btw ;) ). I don't worry much about his coordination. But he also seems like that asshole who sets up stands on land clearly marked "NO HUNTING" or painted purple. He also seems like the type of guy who kills six bobcats on a deer hunting expedition (and no deer), beacuse the bobcats "prey on young deer, thinning the herd for the hunters."

When I owned dogs, when camping I would place even THEM in orange because of the irresponsible assholes out there, and I STILL had to worry about their safety.

24. Not a good one. Here's how good he is at hunting birds...
In the 1994 campaign, he was trying to shoot some of these (Mourning Dove)

He got fined by TPW for shooting this instead (Killdeer)

I supposed that could be considered a type of hunting.

In F911 there is a clip of him doing skeet .
