Ridge said there was no specific time or date in the information captured
from the computer guy in Pakistan. They did report that some of this information on the computer was recently gathered. Some of the information was from years ago. However, Ridge argued that rather than gamble, they decided on the side of caution and called the alert.
They are now reporting on CNN that the alert will probably stay in effect until the election and perhaps beyond.

However, it could be argued that it might dissuade the terrorists if they know that we know? Otherwise, I cannot figure out why an alert would have been upgraded? But, why wouldn't the terrorists hit another location if they know the initial target is being watched? But the other targets may not have the value of the stockmarket, ie , so our government would not be overly concerned with "some" targets as with others?

2. Because they know that we know.
We have always known but now they want the public to know because it is anelection cycle. And this war is forever. And it all depends which target being hit is to the residents benefit. If it would hurt to get Wall Street, then misdirect the terrosts ti some area that doesn't vote for Bush, say the Golden Gate Bridge?

3. I'm Torn...And I'm Sure Many Are Confused
I don't doubt that plans exist on attacks like the ones Ridge mentioned. I'd even say Al Queda isn't the only group that has these maps or they'd be the only one to do it. This smells like something a right wing hate groups or "loners" like a McVeigh would hit. Plus, similar disks were found in Afghanistan after we invaded, so that adds to some of the validity. I don't want to be dimissive lest something happens and we're here trying to backpeddle on the truth that there is a legitimate threat to the security of American right now, and the odds of an attack probably have never been higher, but is is Al Queda???? That's my question. If there was ever an opening for some lunatic right wing group to ride havoc it's now when everyone is being pointed in another direction.

This reminds me of the insane concept of Charles Manson who believed by staging those killings, claiming it was done by the Black Panthers that he could start a race war between blacks and whites and use that "war" to rise to power. Sorry to sound tin-hatty here but I don't put it past this regime and it's followers to be desperate enough to stage a major catastrophe in a desperate effort to keep power.

Let's see if this regime attempts to say they foiled a plot and how this "plot" unravels.

5. Danger has to be immanent
BusH marched out the whole damn crew today in the rose garden.
Acting Director of the CIA John McLaughlin, Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Bush, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of the Justice Department John Ashcroft and FBI Director Robert Mueller. None of them said anything they just stood there and looked worried.
