Poll question: When Bush* Over-Enunciates Words In Written Statements...
what does it mean? He doesn't do it ALL the time... so it's not something we can simply attribute to being "normal" (whatever that means).

It only happens once and awhile, so there must be something that's causing this particular tick.

Is it that he is...

He isn't smart enough and sometimes those words just look funny. You have to c o n c e n t r a t e to get it right.

5. Give the stupid guy a break
He's trying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He could only read--See Spot Run, See Dick, See Jane just a few weeks ago. Look how much he has improved. Before long, he can give his lying stump speeches without notes! Yeah, when hell freezes over, right?

9. Other
I agree that he's trying to remember "hukd on fonics werkd for me." Which is yet another sign that he's functionally illiterate. Isn't the definition of FI someone who hasn't mastered literacy beyond a 5th grade level? That's probably giving him too much credit, though.

10. I think we should push the theory
that it shows that he's drunk. If the meme gains wide acceptance, he'll have to try to avoid that little tic and will start doing something else that sounds equally stupid.

11. He usually smirks after he does it....
I think he has stumbled over that word during rehearsals, and is so proud that he finally got it right. ("See Dick! See Karl! I done good, huh?")

12. Bush over stating
Hi everybody I'm new here but love it. I hate it when Bush
stresses one word and gives me the impression that I am in
Kindergarten or maybe English is my second language but it is
very easy to get laughs using that propensity of his to mimic
him and point out the absurdity.

13. I guess he thinks we'll believe anything if it's e-nun-ci-a-ted slowly
enough.Contrary to what John Kerry has pointed out, I think he believes if he repeats it slowly enough and often enough, it'll actually be true.

14. He's thinks he's a teacher.
It is similar to the way he defines things all the time. Like: "To interpret the law is the job of the administrative branch."

Actually, I think he just learned the word and now wants to teach us too. All of these speech mannerisms make me sick.

15. I have a friend like that
An old guy and I swear every time he gets a "procedure" or some new gadget, he thinks he's the only one that knows about it. He sounds just like George Bush. Has that same tone, and always asks, "do you know what that is?" Like a little kid who just learned how to add 2 + 2. In a quirky old guy, it's okay. In a President???

18. I think he's trying not to snort.
He has a tendency to snort when he encounters a new idea. And i think he hangs on the wrong word to prevent one of his "did I really about to say that" laugh/snorts.

20. It is really noticeable when he's pissed off and trying not to sound so
When he is on the defensive and backed into a corner it's as if he is spitting his words out. Psycho fuck that he is.

23. He's trying to pretend that he actually knows what he's talking about...
But basically, he's just "speaking" (if you can call it that) phonetically -- just words strung together, without any real significance to him.

24. He's Trying
not to stumble over words, as in "misunderestimate" and "strategery." The odd thing is, I was watching him on C-Span doing a stump speech in Pittsburgh and he wasn't doing any of his usual horrible speech mannerisms. He appeared to be glancing down at papers on the podium every so often and he was talking relatively coherently with more than the usual (for him) flow. The only thing I can figure is that he knows the stump speech well enough to wing it and he doesn't have to read, which is what he cannot do apparently. He was absolutely not reading from a teleprompter and didn't appear to have anything in his ear. He had the usual slur, but that's just him.
