So, does anyone think today's Orange Alert was real?
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 08:30 PM by Junkdrawer
What if I were to tell you that Bush sent his wife and BOTH kids to the very "specific" building that was targeted by al Qaeda?

Laura Bush, wife of U.S. President George W. Bush, appeared this afternoon at Citigroup Center, one of the targeted buildings, along with her twin daughters Barbara and Jenna, at an event staged for Citigroup workers in the atrium of the 59-story tower, New York's fifth-tallest building. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and New York Governor George Pataki appeared with her, as they chatted with employees selected to talk with them.

``I want to thank people for coming to work,'' Laura Bush said to questions shouted from reporters. Citigroup is the world's biggest financial services company, and its Citibank branches are among the most visible U.S. businesses abroad.

Would that change your mind?

And, if you still think the alert was real, what does that tell you about Bush the father and husband?

1. PS: Try to find this story on a non-NYC source...
Local consumption only. After all, while the "specific" warning scared the shit out of New Yorkers and Washingtonians, Bush is afraid the rest of the country might get the wrong idea.

6. What a brave, brave family he has
Stepping into an imaginary terrorist zone.

If anyone would believe this alert was for real, they seriously need to look at themselves and ask when did their brain begin to fail them?

5. I don't know what, but something has to be done
about Bush using threats to further his campaign. Isn't that the same as yelling FIRE in a crowded theater? Why doesn't some gungho lawyer file a complaint on behalf of the entire United States on this yahoo? I'd certainly be willing to let them add my name of a class action lawsuit. This is the same as the Mafia taking money to keep you safe from the mob. WHERE'S THE OUTRAGE????? The only one who had the balls to mention this was Keith Olbermann and he showed the alert being given by Tom Ridge wherein he says - I'm paraphrasing - that's why we need to keep George Bush in the White House. I'm very angry about this and can't believe people in Washington DC are letting this happen.

9. Al Capone & Co rule the country...
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 08:10 PM by Junkdrawer
And they rule because while most secretly know how ruthless they are, most will not acknowledge it publicly.

the soup kitchens, but I don't think the poor got a dime, did they?

OK worse than Al Capone.

7. New York has been on "orange alert" since 911.
The "alert" is totally phony. But it will prevent any demonstrations during RNC convention. Also will have taxpayer footing the bill for the convention. A total rip-off.

8. Ah so Dean was right
when he said these were being used for political purposes. Sounds like "Pitch a Fit" Lieberman owes Dean an APOLOGY for insinuating Dean was crazy today for saying that.

16. Yeah, but Kerry also said he didn't think this
Administration would do such a thing. When are they going to get some spine?

17. Which was never the point
Doesn't matter whether Dean was right or wrong. If he'd just waited 24 hours, he could have been citing the new reports that these alerts are based on years old information. He would have been CREDIBLE. Now he's not.

On the other hand, it gave Kerry the opportunity to distance himself from the "fringe left" and at the same time make the statement that playing politics with terror alerts would be "monstrous". So as this unfolds, Kerry comes off looking reasoned with a justifiable degree of righteous indignation at Bush's politicizing national security.

And if Dean did it all intentionally, then my hat's off to him.

11. Not for even one moment.
I didn't think it was real. It very plainly was a device to--to--to do what?

I can swear, I am more confused at the aim of this administration than ever (well, I have a pretty good idea).

I can also swear that if my S.O. thought my child or me to be in danger's way, heaven and earth would be moved to keep us safe.

Alert, alert, alert, terra terra blah blah. I just shrugged my shoulders. They are shitheads til the end.

13. no
i don't think anyone thinks it was real. If we had a real media, this hoax would have been ridiculed for 36 hrs now. Something like this:

It's amazing how forcefully this wh reacts to phony threats, after they ignored a real one in the summer of 2001.

I look for this from malloy.

19. do these "alerts" ever scare anybody?
this admin purports to be americans, but they don't seem to understand Americans very well. As I see it, we have as a people a built in fuck you attitude. It doesn't pay to push us too far. It usually turns out to be a mistake. Anybody know what I mean?

21. Who even knows which lies they are telling anymore
Either the Orange Alert is a lie, or the Bush claims of having routed alqaeda and made us safer are lies. Or they are both lies. What does it say about the state of affairs when your government can't be trusted?
