Iraqi Christians are frightened

I think it's going to blow a lot of people's minds to learn that Christians felt safer under Saddam Hussein than they do now. Mission accomplished!

The recent attacks on Christian churches in Iraq are believed to be the first of their kind in the country's history.

Iraq's Christian community - one of the oldest in the world - has generally been spared the fear of persecution that has plagued many other such communities in the Middle East as a result of the rise in belligerent Islamic movements.

One woman refused to give her name, but said she had felt freer to practice her religion under Saddam Hussein.

"We have an Islamic militia and they talk only about their religion, that's why many Christians are afraid. We don't even wear the cross like before, now we have to hide it inside our clothes, we're scared."
