I was talking to a Republican today
Nice old guy. Retired military special forces. We are doing the plumbing in an office and workshop he is building. I asked him if he saw the Democratic Convention expecting the usual slander and vitriol. He said, "I watched Clinton speak and I sure do miss him. He was one of the best presidents we have ever had. Now, I'm a Republican but I would vote for him if he could run again," I was blown away.

Later my view of republicans was re-enforced when I went to a local supply house and one guy (who I know) yelled at me about "my boy" Howard Dean saying that the new alerts were political to help bush. I said they probably were partly political. Then this guy I didn't know started ranting about how he used to be a "DemoRat" but they are all liars, and cheats. I looked at this idiot and said "Yeah, republicans are paragons of virtue. They never lie or cheat. They are God's chosen people". Then this fucker says, "Hey I was a marine and if Clinton was in office we would be scratching our butts". I looked at him and said, "That is fascinating," and I turned around and walked out. I wanted to punch him in the face or scream that he was an idiot. Why didn't I?

The stupidity of Bush supporters never ceased to amaze me. The convention got my hopes up but now I have been returned to the real world of life in a conservative state, with conservative media and conservative shitheads surrounding me.

Anyone in Canada need a plumber?

3. Difficult to fight them off
They appeal to simple minds and people who struggle to make ends meet. Very seductive BS about how poor people are lazy and out to steal your tax money and so on and so on. After a few years of this it begins to makes sense so people fall in line.

6. Did the asshole use the exact phrase

" I WAS a Marine"? There is no such thing as WAS a Marine. Once a Marine always a Marine. A Marine might refer to himself as a "retired Marine" or he might say "I served in the Marine Corps" but there is no such thing as an "Ex Marine" or "was a Maine. I smell bullsit if that's what he said.

7. Yes
I noticed that too. I have dealt with a few Marines in my life and they always say "I am a Marine". Good point. He also said he was a Democrat, I should have asked to see his voter ID card.
