1. I think it must have been several people at the CIA
Just my guess. Not very specific, I realize.

4. It could just be a simple Cheney up

These clowns are not as together as they'd like to appear. But I note with some humor that the so-called liberal media (in this case, the New York Times) can mount only this feeble take:

"But it's unfortunate that it is necessary to fight suspicions of political timing, suspicions the administration has sown by misleading the public on security. The Times reports today that much of the information that led to the heightened alert is actually three or four years old and that authorities had found no concrete evidence that a terror plot was actually under way. This news does nothing to bolster the confidence Americans need that the administration is not using intelligence for political gain."

Yes, they actually wrote that. About an administration that has declassified secret material to score political points against its enemies (Valerie Plame affair), and retroactively classified public material in order to silence an administation critic (Sibel Edmonds). The most the Times can offer is that the latest round of shenanigans doesn't bolster the public's confidence.

Maybe they'd be a little more forthcoming if a blow job was involved?

6. I'm amazed Rove thought he would get away with it
They've been making lots of stupid moves lately.

7. Stupid moves?

Try desperate moves. I wonder what is next? Isn't it about time for another staged, dress-up, media event? We have not had one of those for awhile.

8. And then you have to ask: why are they so desperate?
I get the impression that they cannot afford to lose control of the reins of government. That there is more at stake than a simple political defeat.....like their personal security.
