Bush "waging the Dog" and the media ignores it.
Putting out 3 or 4 year old information is nothing more than an attempt to distract us. I have not seen anything about this on the news are the media embarrassed that they were duped again. I want CNN to apologize to Dean.

Mr. Bush spoke on a day when Americans were still digesting the terrifying warning of possible terrorist attacks against financial institutions in New York, Newark and Washington. The authorities in those cities did the right thing by stepping up security. But it's unfortunate that it is necessary to fight suspicions of political timing, suspicions the administration has sown by misleading the public on security. The Times reports today that much of the information that led to the heightened alert is actually three or four years old and that authorities had found no concrete evidence that a terror plot was actually under way. This news does nothing to bolster the confidence Americans need that the administration is not using intelligence for political gain.

1. The WH trotted out the Townsend bimbette this morning
to say the information was "updated" in January of 2004. That doesn't mean anything except they've got files of all sorts of useless data that they'll sift through at some point to see if there's an advantage they can exploit. They've actually done this stuff for ages. So has the Mob. So has every intelligence outfit in the world.

Yes, they'd love to destroy the military, intelligence, and commercial centers in the US. However, information gathering doesn't mean much. What's missing is a PLAN, and the truck bomb idea has already been rejected as an innefficient way to destroy skyskrapers (which is what they want, to top 9/11).

This is just more bogus fearmongering by the Bush team. If there were actual, hard information like there was just prior to 9/11, they would release the exact information they did then: none.

Don't want to casue panic, you know, and stop spending.

2. Keith Olbermann didn't ignore it on Countdown last night
If I were Keith, I'd be very careful in crossing the streets in NYC or say, getting on a plane. My guess is that his corporate masters at MS-GOP can't be happy with his telling the truth and doing so consistently where this administration is concerned.

3. Updated in January?
So why do you suppose it took 7 months to decipher? I think Secretary Ridge owes the American people an explanation why suddenly, immediately following the Democratic convention, and when polls (except CNN/Gallup, of course)are showing the (p)resident slipping further in job approval, and actually slipping in terrorism handling, it becomes urgent enough to raise the alert level.

CNN reported on almost NOTHING other than this after 2:00 PM

I agree that CNN owes Governor Dean an apology if Secretary Ridge cannot explain the sudden urgency.

4. Our local news last night was dominated by
"terror talk". They were speaking to some person who was identifying the big financial institutions in Little Rock. They were also discussing possible "targets" or tall buildings in the city. And, finally, they showed a "terror" training excercise at a Little Rock school. They had one student with a fake bullet hole to the head. They had a FIFTH GRADER talking about how scary it was.
