My veteran defending his patriotism
Edited on Tue Aug-03-04 08:40 AM by vetwife
I literally got sick last night., for my husband. A church we have attended since the nineties, which I quit some months ago, really upset my vet last night. He received an email regarding an article sent by the pastor's wife no less from her job at an insurance company. She sent him the article regarding a couple discussing in a resturant that Bush was wrong for the country and so was Iraq. They sent this email to him not knowing where he stood politically as he is quite. They know him as being a disabed VN vet and know us both to be patriotic and love God and Country. They were passing this email for all to pray for Bush and how this couple was insensitive regarding our troops and our president.

He shot back an email that will ruin her day I am sure when she receives it. he said, "I agree with the dissenters". I stand with them and not Bush. I fought LITERALLY for their right to dissent.
Jack

He said, I didn't think it would come to this. I said, "Told ya".
I knew it would. He said, I am really hurt because I thought I knew those folks and I have enjoyed that church. Mostly because they never shoved anything down anyone's throat. I said, "These folks are showing who they are. And they are wrong.". HE said, "I know" and that is what hurts. I said, I knew it three months ago when they didn't bother to contact me after Mama died. I am sure today they are calling him another unpatriotic american. 100 percent disabled from Viet Nam who served with the 101st. Who lives with that trauma daily.
I told him that I had backed off locally my activism because of his involvement with the church but now I was going FULL STEAM AHEAD ! Ralph Reed, I am your worst nightmare, here in Ga. See they have to be shown..God does not belong to the Republican party or Bush.

2. Im so sorry..these hypocrites are in my town too
they fly yellow ribbons and wring their hands and whine and moan about the troops and not one of them has a loved one over there...yellow ribbons on gas guzzling SUVs and large trucks..what hypocrisy!!!
Its disgusting. Your vet husband was right on in his disgust. It takes a real vet or family of a loved one in that fake arrogant war to set these idiots back on track..
If the pastors wife is sending this stuff out you might want to turn them into the IRS for violating their tax exempt status, if she is doing it in the church's name.
Gads, vetwife, you need to move. I wish I could whisk you away from these idiots!

18. from work? Really...
I'm sure her employer would be *thrilled* with her using work time and resources---and, potentially the company node name in the address to send *any* political material out. You might ask someone higher up than your "emailing pastor's wife in the insurance company if they endorse this sort of thing.

5. First of all I want to thank your husband
for his service to our country. He sent out a simple and truthful email to those people and that is a good thing too. And right you are, God doesn't belong to the republican party or bush. Go get 'em!

7. Go Amanda!!
I have never seen you ANYTHING but full steam ahead, girl!! But now? Look out Georgia!!

She's pissed! Everybody outta the way!

Sorry for your husband's rude awakening. These people are hypocrites of the worst sort, and I have absolutely no problems with coming out and calling them what they are to their faces.

I await your next adventure with welcome ears and heart, sweetie!

8. Ouch, tough day for your vet.
Having been there myself, I understand the disappointment that comes from thinking you know your friends and believing that they have taken the time to know you, only to discover that they have not and you are wrong. And to have it be the pastor's wife to boot. Is it not his job to know his parishioners, and by extention, hers as well?

I'm no church maven but it would seem to me that the pastor's wife had no business making such assumptions nor sending such an e-mail. What little, unimaginative minds some people have.

9. Sorry he had to learn the hard way
I am also a veteran and I won't go into any organized church here in RW land. If you really want to hurt them, stop passing them the ole might dollar. That is what they really worship anyway.

10. Thank you for your service
I never was much of a offering plate tipper, I have told more than one member there we take care of folks even putting ourselves in doom (financial) for those who need it..Something they should be doing. Guess I got a litel too close to the truth Huh? Oh yeah, the editor and me are warring and it looks like they have met their match. What a wonderful day. A winger called the loan on my son's car yesterday..Repoed ! He had to choose between a tooth pulled and one car payment. He borrowed the tooth pulling money from us and his 81 year old grandfather. Before Bush it was me and Jack. Then we got the kids. Now we have my out of work son and my 81 year old Dad .....My my..I don't think I can take much more compassionate conservatism !

A winger called the loan on my son's car

You're sure ? You think someone did this for spite? Not that I don't think it occurs, it just make me think even less of them. If that's possible.

17. If you don't mind,
I'd like to wrap that vet hubby of yours in a big ol' virtual hug. I support our troops; I don't support administrations that send them where they don't need to be.
What the hey...virtual hugs to ya both!
