As seen on yahoo news today--

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, seen here with US President George W. Bush in 2003, presented the Bush family 130,000 dollars worth of fine jewelry (AFP/File/Luke Frazza)

3. If you have a yahoo.com account, rate the story high
so it and the picture will stay bumped up to the top of the news photo section and more people who check yahoo will see it.

7. I think there's a federal law that requires
all such gifts to be turned over to "the nation", when they leave office. I also have a recollection of Ronald Reagan and/or Nancy screwing up on such gifts.

11. Isn't there a rule against accepting gifts from foreign heads of state?
Edited on Tue Aug-03-04 10:16 AM by rocknation
I vaugely remember a brouhaha about somebody--Japanese?--giving a president's wife--Carter's?--an honorarium and it was immediately put in a safe and allegedy forgotten about.

On edit: According to post #7, it was Regan's wife.

12. They are not allowed to keep the gifts.
I think they can keep anything worth under $50.00 or something like that but it all becomes state property. It could possibly be displayed at this library when it's built.
