Live reports from IL GOP meeting here. . .
. . .Illinois Leader is one of the more partisan GOP Websites, but they are refreshingly honest about themselves. Here is a report from today's meeting. I will keep checking in.

Wassup at the ILGOP State Central Committee meeting

Tuesday, August 03, 2004

Keep The Leader on your monitor screen for up-to-the-minute reports on the in-progress ILGOP State Central Committee meeting to pick the new Republican U.S. Senate candidate from Illinois.
12:15 p.m., Union League Club, Chicago -- All Republican State Central Committee members except Bill Dam are present at the meeting to pick the new U.S. Senate candidate.
-snip-

Prospective candidate Jim Oberweis is there with an assistant carrying, “Mexican Americans for Oberweis” signs.

SCC member Steve Meyer was not going to be allowed into the meeting due to Union League Club dress code rules, because he was wearing blue jeans. He snuck in with Illinois Leader managing editor Fran Eaton as a member of the press.

LOL Oberweis has no damn shame.

1. Keys is not on the list. . .
-snip-
1:00 p.m., Union League Club, Chicago -- State Central Committee member Steve Meyer came out of the meeting to tell Illinois Leader the committee is reviewing a list of 11 candidates they plan to interview today.

The list is handwritten, and there may be misspellings: Terrence Barnich, Dr. Andrea Bathwell, Steve Bergauer, John Borling, John Cox, Norm Hill, Dr. Chirinjeev Kathuria, Andy Martin, Jim Oberweis, Martin Ozinga, and Daniel Vonik.

The ILGOP said anyone who was not a member of the press or the SCC had to leave.
-snip-

The place must be udder chaos, I understand the police were called to remove some people. . .its getting ugly and too too funny.

That Keyes would NOT be flying in for this circle-jerk. Doesn't mean he isn't interested, just not coming today.

2. Check this out:
. J. Rodriguez, who nominated Steve Rauschenberger at the GOP State Convention for the position of National Republican Committeeman from Illinois, to potentially replace Bob Kjellander, was standing outside the committee room and asked to leave the building. He was standing in front of the building, and the Union League Club called the Chicago police to have him removed.

This guy is the biggest mover and shaker, money man/bag man that the Pukes have. Wazzup with that?

3. More on this guy:
Kjellander is the Republican national committeeman of Illinois, meaning he's the big GOP honcho.

He's a buddy of White House political director Karl Rove.

So you may think he's a Republican, since he directs the Republican Party.

But Kjellander made more than $800,000 in a $10 billion state bond-borrowing pension deal to help Rod Blagojevich, the Democratic governor of Illinois. Big Bob won't say what he did for the cash.

When Illinois conservatives tried to bounce Kjellander from the post of national committeeman at their convention this spring, White House political director Karl Rove showed up and put on the muscle. Kjellander stayed.

11. Latest:
2:25 p.m., Union League Club, Chicago -- Scoop: Alan Keyes is not coming in today. There is a contingent on the State Central Committee that is interested in pursuing Keyes to be the Republican U.S. Senate nominee. The SCC must decide as a collective body whether it will pursue Keyes, who has expressed interest and intrigue about the idea, by way of official invitation or resolution. If so, Keyes would fly in and address the SCC tomorrow....

Norm Hill has just been beckoned to “the room.”

John Borling came out of his interview looking like he was enjoying himself. He’s tanned and looks like he’s had a good summer on his boat.

John Cox came out of the meeting room looking like he’d been through a very traumatic experience, very somber, not the suave guy we we’re used to seeing. He said the SCC asked pointed questions, but he would not elaborate. His process took about 15 minutes, he said.

Neither Borling nor Cox would say they have someone on the SCC committed to nominate them.

17. Maybe the IL GOP really IS equal opportunity!
That photo may well be proof positive that we have been unkind in our views about how elitist the GOP is...

It certainly is a nice contrast to Obama--with his background of accomplishments like the Harvard Law Review and a successful state Senate career.
