Check out this pile of crap from page 6 (NY Post)
Get those air sickness bags ready... you're definitely going to hurl after this one.

========================

NY POST...PAGE 6

AT the same time they posed for pictures chomping down on fast food at Wendy's, John Kerry and John Edwards — the wealthiest presidential ticket of all time — had gourmet box lunches waiting for them in their bus.

The Kerry/Edwards photo-op campaign stop at Wendy's in upstate Newburgh, N.Y., last Friday included lots of blue-collar flesh-pressing and autograph-signing — but very little eating.

The reason? A member of the Kerry/Edwards advance team had ordered much fancier fare the night before from posh Nikola's Restaurant at the Newburgh Yacht Club at a cost of about $200, the Mid-Hudson News reports.

The deluxe lunches were picked up at noon and were waiting on the bus as
Connoisseur Kerry ordered just chili at Wendy's and his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, ultimately settled on just a Frosty.

Just because Teresa inherited a ketchup fortune doesn't mean she likes burgers and fries. "You could tell she wasn't familiar with the menu," Wendy's manager John Garrett told PAGE SIX's Lisa Marsh. But, "Mr. and Mrs. Edwards knew what they wanted right away," Garrett said. John and Elizabeth Edwards ate "a single combo and a single combo with cheese," a smallish meal of a single-patty burger.

In contrast, the box lunches on the bus featured shrimp vindaloo, grilled diver
sea scallops, prosciutto-wrapped stuffed chicken and steak salad. With such fare waiting for them, it's no wonder the candidates and their spouses ate light at Wendy's.

But Hollywood supporter Ben Affleck either didn't know there were treats on the bus or he has a voracious appetite — he ordered the double-cheese combo.

The stop at Wendy's also fulfilled a family tradition for Edwards and his wife.
They have a standing date there each year on July 30, their wedding anniversary. It was the way they spent their first anniversary as young lawyers in 1978.

Meanwhile, the candidates' entourage of press and supporters had to wait for their lunches. While the advance team had ordered 125 bag lunches from the Alexis Diner in Newburgh, the buses bypassed that stop to go directly to
Wendy's. The order was finally picked after the group left Wendy's.

The Kerry/Edwards campaign did not return calls for comment.

===========================

Can you believe this shit????? So, what are you all saying?

Why that fancy-pants elitist!!!!! :puke:

I bet they will then offer up articles of b*sh "down on the ranch" chopping wood and raking leaves like us ordinary folk.

:puke:

Moreover, I would be lost in Wendy's myself - I never eat fast food - except MAYBE Subway if I am rushed or pizza if it is GENUINEly NY style. It is not a matter of elitism, but health. I like more adventurous spicy international cuisines myself, so I too will have what Kerry is having!

Pretending to eat lunch at Wendy s, when another meal has been preordered is phoney.

I do not care if they eat Whoppers or Caviar...just be honest.

53. Read some non spun stories on the event please
Newburgh was not a planned political stop and was added at the last mniute, they were just grabbing food at various places in Newburgh for the trip. The Newburgh stop was for Edwards mostly and the Wendy's stop was for Edwards anniversary tradition. The Press didn't even eat at Wendy's so I don't know why they complain, they ordered food from Alexis Diner. The advanced orders were placed the evening before, possibly before they decided to do the Edward's Wendy's stop there, I mean there are plenty of Wendy's, and they could have originally planned to go to Wendy's later in Scranton.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5561407/

http://www.kait8.com/Global/story.asp?S=2113550

If they had all eaten at Wendy's, the right wing spin would have made some other spin up. For example there was a story about Kerry not stopping in Connecticut on his way through, even though it was late at night, is this news? no

http://www.wtnh.com/Global/story.asp?S=2111903

The so called posh meal were $10 a piece, hardly cavier.

12. Yeah--I don't eat there either--
and neither do they. This was just something cooked up to make them appear like blue collar folks--it was a really stupid idea from the very beginning.

I know plenty of people who do eat fast food on a regular basis--but even these people DO NOT do it on their anniversary. Even the most average Joe knows that he better do something special on his anniversary or he is toast. And most people really want to do something special--something that is a treat to celebrate a special occasion.

I never believed the lie about "always celebrating their anniversary at Wendy's"--it was always a stupid ploy--it was geared at people who are gullible--I don't know anyone who ever really believed it. The person who made up this lame lie should be fired from the campaign--but ultimately the Edwards are responsible for spreading the story and publicizing it to the hilt that was a dumb thing to do.

13. How do you know this is a lie?
John and Elizabeth Edwards were poor when they were first married and all they could afford was Wendy's. Now of course they can afford better but have made it a family tradition much like the Dean family's Mother's Day bike ride. They only eat lunch at Wendy's to remind themselves of how far they've come.Nowhere does it say that they don't have a lovely dinner or celebrate in a another manner in the evening.I think you are unduly judgemental about this. I am certainly not gullible but I found the tradition charming. But I may be biased because my parents were also struggling young lawyers who met in law school. And yes, they too had a cheap restaurant they patronised on their anniversary to mark the progrss of their life. There were no Wendy's in their day but they went to the corner pub in the bad section of town where they first lived.

It's true--according to the NY Post. They ran a gossip item earlier this week that said the head of some studio was dining with Brandon and Lily Tartikoff when Slyvester Stallonne dropped by their table. That's a real neat trick considering Brandon Tartikoff (former head of NBC) has been dead for about 6 or 7 years now!

Just plain stupid on the part of the Kerry team. Fucking stupid. Can you believe they get paid big $ for ideas like that?

Next time, maybe they'll have him pose at a Honda lot with a hybrid car, maybe test drive it, then shuttle him home in a Hummer limo.

35. The tradition was the Edwards, NOT the Kerrys
The whole reason they were there was not a blue collar photo op, but to stay true to the Edwards' anniversary tradition, which I think is a very charming and romantic one.

The Edwards, for which this event held meaning, DID have a full meal. Why should the Kerrys, who just happened to be there, feel obligated to eat there. Maybe they didn't want to horn in on the Edwards' tradition by eating a full meal.

As for the $200 price tag, does it mention how many people those lunches were feeding? I'm sure it was more that John and Theresa.

It amazes me that when a RW rag points out something this trivial, we have a whole chorus here agreeing it was some horrible mistake. No matter WHAT Dem candidates do, the RW media will find fault with it.

Just yesterday there was an article saying O'Bama's education was a problem for him. Who knew being smart could somehow be turned into a negative. :wtf: In this case, attacking the messenger is a more appropriate response.

45. It was stupid, plain and simple.
They must have forgotten that they are in a horserace campaign where every gaffe will be illuminated before the electorate. And it's a gaffe. Are you telling me this wasn't foreseeable?

Fine, it's the Edwards' tradition, and they pulled it off. That's because they're two middle-class folks who ate at Wendy's their whole lives, but who have lately been blessed with great wealth. Kerry and Teresa cannot pull this off. Sorry. It's too obvious of a reach.

"As for the $200 price tag, does it mention how many people those lunches were feeding? I'm sure it was more that John and Theresa." Oh, and I'm sure that's going to make the working poor independents feel better about the guy. Unless they were feeding 40 (and you know as well as I do they weren't), this statement doesn't hold water. To ordinary people, it looks like Kerry and Teresa and their elite friends are too good for Wendy's, or at the least, that Wendy's is not good enough for them.

Very, very shortsighted and stupid, and just the kind of ordinary person experience that resonates. Remember GHWB not knowing that they had scanners at the grocery store? Remember how that went over like a fart in church? This is in the same vein.

A fricken Wendy's meal costs about $5, even when I eat lunch at decent Diner I'm paying like $7 for a meal.

$200 divided by 19 = $10.50 roughly

A $10 lunch is hardly "elite" or "posh" quite with your spin

58. It's not spin, hotrod, it's reality.
You may not like how stupid and superficial the majority of our electorate is, but if you want to win elections, you'd better start figuring out how they think. When they see a very very rich candidate eat like a bird at a restaurant most of them frequent, then hear that, immediately after leaving, he sat down to:

"...shrimp vindaloo, grilled diver sea scallops, prosciutto-wrapped stuffed chicken and steak salad."

The vast majority of the populace doesn't even know what "vindaloo" shrimp are, or what a "diver" scallop is, or even what prosciutto is. They don't see this as a non-issue, completely off-point of whether he is qualified as a leader. They see this as another example of how Kerry is not like one of us. And all he had to do was eat a hamburger for lunch one day.

His handlers botched this. Hopefully it won't get too much play, and they'll learn from it. Shit like this in October will cost us dearly, whether you like it or not.

37. There was a stop at Wendy's
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 10:35 AM by pschoeb
But they also were planned stops at other restraunts in Newburgh as well, were they supposed to eat something at all of them? They were actually running late in their schedule when they arrived at Wendy's, and had to consolidate their stops in Newburgh. But that's what happens when you just read Post's spin. The reason these places are chosen are becasue there along the highway and have parking lots, I'm sure other towns they stopped at restraunts were they ate nothing at all, because they had already eaten in Newburgh. Also Newburgh was not an originally scheduled stop and was supposed to be just a quick stop, not a political stop, I believe it was Edward's that wanted to stop at Wendy's, because it was a tradition for their 27th annual wedding anniversary.

http://www.midhudsonnews.com/News/KerryEdwards_Nbrg-31Jul04.htm

http://www.kait8.com/Global/story.asp?S=2113550

This is total right wing spin, if Kerry had all eaten big meals at Wendy's this would have been spun in some other pathetic way.

Couldn't they have just eaten Wendy's for one day, since the Edwards were going to?

Just politically short-sighted, big-time.

54. Stop with the spin already
The meals were not $200 a piece, but $10 for 19 people. There are planty of posts here that point that out.

You obviously didn't read any of my post, It's not even clear when the Wendy's stop was planned, they ordered the food the evening before. The Press preordered at Alexis, my guess is that all that was planned was a general pit stop at Newburgh, not a political stop, no one at Wendy's was even expecting them.

59. Well, if it wasn't well-planned,
then his handlers need to learn to think on their feet better. The single biggest gulf between Kerry and most independents is money. W, for all his shittyness, does seem to understand that with regard to himself, and he goes out of the way to court the stupid vote. He gets it. I'm not saying Kerry go too far out of the way to get the stupid vote, but he sure should be careful about pissing it off.

33. Nikola's restraunt isn't really that posh
Here's link
http://www.nikolasbistro.com/IndexFramePage2.htm

Dinner entrees are from $16-20, dinner entrees even at cheap crappy restraunts(that aren't fast food) are at about $7. A restraunt with $16-20 dinner entrees hardly qualifies as posh, maybe nice, or if the food is excellent, a great deal(in reviews the restraunt gets 4-5 stars, i'd say it was a good deal)

$200 for food for a bus load of people seems real cheap. It was 19 meals, which means $10 a piece, a craptastic Wendy's meal is gonna cost you around $5, though with the added possible benefit of a bad case of diarrhea.

I Would rather give money to locally owned restraunt that pays living wage.

Post is worse than Weekly World News which at least is humerous in it's manufactored stories.

Also the Press wasn't even intersted in eating at Wendy's they all made advanced orders for Alexis Diner. Dinner entrees at Alexis run from $7-16.

36. John Kerry obviously taught Teresa the First Rule of Mess Halls
"Always ask what it is, even when it's labeled."

I figured the "liberal media" would play this one to the hilt.

Apparently, the Post's editors figure no one who reads that rag ever ate at Wendy's before: a "Classic Single Combo," which is what the Edwards' got, is not exactly a "smallish" meal; it's a quarter-pound hamburger and perfectly suitable for lunch. If they'd have eaten the "Classic Triple with Cheese," the article would have told the Post readers that Elizabeth Edwards is a fat sow because she eats 3/4-pound hamburgers all the time.

50. The trivialization of politics. Right up there with underwear and hair.
The really sad thing is that there are people who actually decide who to vote for based on this kind of nonsense.
