From the way Bush and his right wing shills in the media talk
about how vulnerable we are to "Terror" and how he is qualified to deal with terror, you would never think that they are talking about the only superpower that the world has ever known, capable of blowing up our planet many times over,if need be.That the US has vast resources at its command that others can only dream about and can create even more if necessary simply seems to escape these people.

To admit that we are powerful in comparison with even the most advanced states in Europe would be to say that we are essentially dealing with pinpricks when it comes to terrorism. That these incidents will not materially alter our way of life for the foresseable future.

The subtext in their constant invocation of the AlQaeda network is that Al Qaeda itself was the creation of the US and Saudi Arabia to drive out the Soviet Union from Afghanistan.A network of Muslim nations was asked to form the Al Qaeda network and supplied with huge piles of money and arms to accomplish the mission of driving out the Soviet invaders. When that war ended with the Soviet Union's retreat,a new mission was found,i.e terrorism ,for all the unemployed Mujahideen. It is very likely that these Mujahideen are still in the employ of the Saudis.

After having read the PNAC document, I thought that many of the events in the Middle East can best be understood by noting the convergence of interests between the US and Israel.I think it may even make more sense to see that there may be a convergence of interests between the US, Saudi Arabia and Israel. The intersection of oil, global hegemony and Israeli security has created powerful incentives for Bush,Sharon and the Saudi Royal Family to maintain the Al Qaeda bogeyman to silence their detractors and relentlessly wage war on any resisters in their path to power.
