IL Republican mutiny on WLS-AM this morning RE: Senate race!
I just finished listening to the best hour of radio I have ever heard. Jay Marvin and Eileen Byrne (neither of whom I can stand) had Jim Oberweis, who came in 2nd in the primary and Mary Alice Erickson, vice chair of the Illinois Republican State Central Committee. Well Ms. Erickson and the Illinois Republican party were taken to task over the selection process to replace Jack Ryan.

The rank and file Illinois Republican is pissed. Pissed that Jack Ryan is out, pissed that Oberweis is not in, pissed that the selection comes down to liberal leaning Black female Republican who was reprimanded for lewd behavior in the White House and a Black conservative carpetbagger.

This is too damned funny!

that Eileen Byrne.....is there ANYBODY worse than she is?

and I MEAN that: Rush, Ollie, Horowitz; think of the absolute bottom of the barrel, and she'll be sucking their heels

I really can't stomach her

Jay can be reasonable, but I have NEVER listened to that show, so I dunno what effect she has on him

thanks for the headsup, though, and I hope you have some pepto

19. The wig guy
I truly wish they would have picked this guy because at least there would have been some comdeic relief to the campaign. As it is, one can only look at the IL GOP and shake their heads in disgust:

Here he is showing up yesterday:

and these are from his web site:

I'm not certain, but I would hazard a guess this is with his landlord:

And these:

and having a drink at the Town Square tavern  :

If the IL GOP had been smart, they would have filmed a reality show on this because you seriously cannot make this shit up! At least the revenues could have been added to their coffers after they are destroyed this year, and the episode with Ditka storming out would have had very high ratings!

I'm hoping for him

still very bummed that Coach Dikkka chickened out

I'm certain that the wife put the kibosh on that one, though

or, second choice, he's very well aware of the MYRIAD skeletons in his overflowing closet

still, can you imagine how much fun that woulda been?

and did you see that moran Kass' column about him?

one of the very few of his I've ever bothered to read

62. She's A Sad Sell-Out Going Nowhere...
Deborah started at small WVON...the black talk station and did fairly well...and got hired by Zemirah Jones at WLS a couple years ago to for the "double minority" points of having both a woman and black on the air.

Deborah wasn't ready for WLS when she got there and was teamed up with others for a while and was usually the "moderate" or even "liberal". That all changed after 9/11 when the station went hard right and completely off my push buttons. She thought she could create a unique niche: Female Black Conservative talk host. Ya know, TV shows and being paraded around and made to feel important and liked and petted and...just one problem, her air work still sucks.

Oh well, at least here's a case where affirmative action and EEOC rules may have gone wrong...LOL.

The Chicago Sun-Times obtained a copy of the internal inquiry into whether Barthwell created a "hostile workplace." An agency spokeswoman confirmed its accuracy and said Barthwell was sent to anti-sexual harassment training and Equal Employment Opportunity training. "The matter was addressed to the satisfaction of all parties," said agency spokeswoman Jennifer de Vallance.

Barthwell said the Dec. 19, 2002, office party was to celebrate the holidays and workers with birthdays that month. She admitted to participating in what she described as "light banter back and forth" after a heterosexual worker mistakenly said he had to walk his "boyfriend's dog."

"He meant to say 'my daughter's boyfriend's dog,'" Barthwell said. "One of his co-workers picked up on it and teased him. . . . And I engaged in the banter also.
-snip-

Barthwell also said she is recovering from addictions to alcohol, cocaine, prescription drugs and marijuana, but has not used any of those substances for 20 years.

http://www.illinoisleader.com/printer/article.asp?c=18231

A pretty liberal republican (she's contributed to Jesse Jackson Jr and voted democrat in the last 3 elections) who had allegations by her staff for demonstrating "lewd and abusive behavior" while serving in the Bush administration.

or a conservative Talk show host who not only is a resident of Maryland but ran for US Senate in that state twice.

Their common background: The 2 African Americans who applied for the job.

18. MUST READ!!!!!!!!
More on one of the finalists:

In front of her staff, Andrea Grubb Barthwell made repeated comments about the sexual orientation of a staff member and used a kaleidoscope to make sexually offensive gestures, according to the findings of a March 19, 2003, "hostile workplace memorandum" prepared by drug policy office staff. The Associated Press obtained the memorandum.

"Dr. Barthwell made reference to this staff member sitting on men's laps. A kaleidoscope pointed upward was placed on a chair by Dr. Barthwell as the staff member was about to sit down," it said.

"Dr. Barthwell suggested that the staff member would want to cut the cake available for the gathering because the knife was 'long and hard' and he might 'enjoy handling it.' When the cake was cut, Dr. Barthwell referred to the pieces as 'most' or 'beefy' and she said to the staff member, 'I know you like it big and meaty.'"

I'm sure on the list of possible contenders they had some extremely qualified folks to run on the GOP ticket. But the idiots decided they had to pick a black candidate so they could counter the fact that Obama is African-American. And now they have 2 idiots that'll be trounced on because one was involved in her own sex scandal and the other is a carpetbagger.

Do republicans think that African-American voters are THAT stupid??

Terry...she's the one holding a bunch of bags here. She's still tied to the George Ryan/Old Guard machine, was the one who supposedly vetted Jack Ryan and has seen the party go to hell over the past 2 years. Her only trump card is she's the only statewide elected Repugnican...and not much else.

She's got her eye on going up against Blago in 2006, but I don't think there's too many in that party that see much beyond November right now...and will be lucky to get there.

What's your thought?

48. Oh, IMR, I think Jack Ryan is the sacrificial lamb in this.
The spin for weeks now is that Ryan wasn't candid with Topinka and Jim Edgar about the divorce stuff...and because of that, Ryan did this to himself...and put the GOP in this position today.

I think instead of challenging Blagojevich in 2006, Ms. Topinka will have her hands full trying to deal with the shambles that the Illinois GOP is in today. This is even worse than 2 years ago.

53. Ryan has also dragged out this whole process
Has he even filed the papers to formally withdraw from the race yet? I have little sympathy for Judy Barr Topinka, but Jack Ryan has dug his own grave, and he is through in Illinois politics. The IL GOP has a lot to blame Jack Ryan for, but their biggest mistake was not selecting Oberweiss. They seem to be deluding themselves that they actually have a chance in this election. They should have allowed Oberweiss to spend his own money and lose. That way they could have maintained some level of credibility.

55. Ok, my 2 cents...
1. Jim Thompson for blurring the lines between Rep and Dem. He was cozy with Daley, and it was always about the $$$.
2. George Ryan for furthering the "Combine" and continuing to blur the lines. Also about $$$.
3. Because of #s 1 and 2, there is deep division among Republicans. Some want a return to conservative values (no abortion), and others want to continue the "moderate" course (which really means $$$).
4. Because of #3, there is NO WAY the Rep party can agree on a candidate. TOO far right and the Mods stay home or vote Dem. TOO far left and the RW stays home.

It will be years before they resemble anything like real opposition in Illinois.

Anyone able to record this or have Replay Radio? It'd be fun to hold onto this hour. Please PM me if you do.

Cheers
