*September 2, 1898: Battle of Omdurman, Major-General Horatio Herbert Kitchener and his army of 25,000-plus Egyptian, Sudanese, and British troops, used superior technology to massacre the army of Khalifa Abdullah, the fundamentalist leader in the Sudan.
