Revisisting the Anthrax Attacks.
Let us pause and remember the anthrax attack and the fruits which were born by it. The Patriot Act is reasonably one of the primary fruits. Without the Anthrax letters sent to Democratic senators, and ONLY to democratic senators, the Patriot act may have been stopped or changed substantially.

Consider how you would have felt if you were a U.S. Senator and your staff had been exposed to weaponized anthrax. What message did the terrorist(s) effectively communicate to these senators? Why did they choose these four senators and NO Republican senators? What was the probable intent of the anthrax terroist(s)?

Sometimes we have to seek the truth in non-standard ways. The FBI has been unable to find out the whole truth about the anthrax attacks. But we can analyze the event in terms of the facts and formulate our own conclusions. Who benefited from the attack? What was the effect on the body politic? What law(s) resulted from the attack? Who would have had access to anthrax from Fort Detrick? Who would have had the ability to do this act?

We need to remember the anthrax attack for another reason. It clearly demonstrated that there is no way to stop terrorism with military or police actions. It also demonstrates that terrorist acts can be done anonymously. It shows us how difficult it can be to identify the individual(s) responsible for the act(s). We should always remember that we do not necessarily know who is responsible for a terrorist act, even if a group claims responsibility.

1. 2001 anthrax attacks

The 2001 anthrax attacks occurred over several weeks in September and October 2001. Cases of anthrax due to bioterrorism broke out at various locations. Due to the fact that this immediately followed the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks there has been speculation of linkage between the two events. This was furthered by allegations that the "skin lesion" for which Ahmed al-Haznawi, one of the alleged September 11 hijackers, sought treatment at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was in fact caused by cutaneous anthrax.

There were numerous exposures, several infections (nineteen), and five fatalities. Thousands were tested. 10,000 people in the United States took a two-month course of antibiotics after possible exposure. Hundreds or thousands of unexposed persons acquired the antibiotic Cipro through their doctors or over the Internet. Later statistical analysis claims that approximately 5 deaths and 25 non-fatal cases of anthrax were prevented by prompt antibiotic use.

All of the anthrax spores in the mail were found to be of an identical strain. This strain is one that the U.S. military used for study at USAMRIID and distributed to other government and university labs as well as to other governments including United Kingdom. The FBI claims that they are concentrating on a domestic terrorist. They now believe that the anthrax attack was not related to the September 11th, 2001 attacks.

2. I've always thought
that some Rush Lame-baugh groupie did this. I've been convinced since 1995 that one day, some freeper type would do something crazy thinking he was impressing right wing hate radio.

3. "some Rush Lame-baugh groupie"
with access to the militarized Ames-strain of Fort Detrick.

How's this for a Washington Post headline that should have woken America:

Capitol Hill Anthrax Matches Army's Stocks
5 Labs Can Trace Spores to Ft. Detrick

6. you can't handle that stuff outside a containment facility
The weaponized spores volatize into the air immediately. If someone outside that CIA bioweapons lab had tried to take that stuff outside and fill envelopes, he would have contaminated everything in the immediate area and you'd have heard about a lot more deaths.

The targets were also just too coincidental: the photographer who took an embarrassing shot of the drunken Bush twins was the first target, followed by powerful Democrats and the network TV news media. Pox News, of course, was completely exempted.

I think this has Bush pawprints all over it. I think it was meant to scare Democrats and the news media into silence, and for three years, it has worked.

4. What a country we live in.
Picture this: Aerosolized VX and sarin nerve gas descends on Navy ships. Biological and chemical agents are released over thousands of civilians. A germ able to wipe out a country's wheat crop is stockpiled in secret.

What dastardly fiend is responsible? Iraq? Libya? North Korea? al-Qaida? No. The culprit is none other than our own government.

From 1962 to 1973, the Department of Defense planned 134 tests under Project 112, a chemical and biological weapons "vulnerability-testing program," the Los Angeles Times reported. Earlier this year, the Pentagon admitted for the first time that some of the tests used real chemical and biological weapons, not harmless stimulants.

In all, 37 secret tests were conducted in California, Alaska, Florida, Hawaii, Maryland and Utah. Land tests in Alaska and Hawaii used artillery shells filled with sarin and VX gas -- the same deadly stuff our government claims Saddam Hussein has been stockpiling. Navy trials off the coast of Florida, California and Hawaii tested the ability of ships and crew to perform under biological and chemical warfare. The code name for the sea tests Project Shipboard Hazard and Defense -- "SHAD" for short. The Pentagon has said that both the crew and the team disseminating nerve gas wore protective gear and went through decontamination, according to the New York Times.

8. yes it was widely published -- Bob Stevens, photo EDITOR
Stevens wasn't the photographer. He was a senior editor in charge of selecting which photos would run in the tabloids. Apparently he was not a malicious guy, just a fun-loving guy who liked to poke a bit of fun at puffed-up celebs and pols of all kinds -- their stories about Clinton and Osama Bin Laden (they reported Osama had a tiny unit) were far more vicious than their pokes at the Bush twins. In any event, the office received some kooky letter with powder in it and he handled it and held it up to his face to read it. Unfortunately, American Media gets many crank letters, and they had no reason to save the letter, so it was lost.

Last I heard his widow filed suit against the U.S. gov't for its sloppy security practices that allowed someone to take the anthrax from the building. It is known that Steven Hatfill, the primary suspect to our knowledge, was able to get into a containment area and have sex with his girlfriend! Not proof that he stole the anthrax but proof that he was allowed to wander outside his area of expertise and get access to areas where he shouldn't have been permitted. Hatfill was later proven not to have the degrees and qualifications that he had claimed to have; even his doctorate was invented. Yet he was allowed to work with Ebola and Marburg virus!

Here's a bit about the widow's lawsuit:

http://www.cnn.com/2003/LAW/09/24/anthrax.lawsuit/

I think if the lawsuit causes the feds to take a little more care in vetting who the hell they allow to have access to dangerous materials, it will be a good thing.

10. So it was
Steven's tabloid publishing company in Florida that was contaminated with anthrax?.

In english: "The connection seems dubious yet plausible".

In militarized english: "It sounds like a shot accross his bow".

In Bush Texan english: "That'll learn'em".

9. And what did Bill Clinton ever do to catch the anthrax killer?
Just disgraceful! Thank God we have a man in the White House now who's so decisive and resolute, who was against an independent commission to investigate 9/11 until he was for it, and who never deviated in the slightest from his firm mission to funnel the U.S. Treasury directly into his friends' and relatives' pockets.

11. ssh, we're supposed to have forgotten about the anthrax attacks
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 02:13 PM by NewJeffCT
Remember, since 9/11, Bush has kept us very very {orange alert! orange alert!) very safe. No terror attacks in the US since then. Also, forget that DC sniper, too.

(and, you're getting very sleepy)

12. Anthrax attack suspect number one, in my book, is Jerome Hauer-
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 02:25 PM by bobthedrummer
Tommy Thompson hired Jerome Hauer from SAIC on 9-10-2001.
:wtf:

Immediately after the 9/11 attacks, well before any indication of anthrax (specifically) attack, Jerome Hauer and Tommy Thompson promoted the use of I.G.Farben spin-off pharmaceutical giant Bayer's antidote for anthrax (specifically) Cipro.

Were they psychic?

And while Tommy Thompson stood around bragging about his negotiating a 300 million Cipro dose deal with Bayer, innocent US Postal Service employees were working and being infected in HOT ZONES!:grr:

Tommy Thompson has been evasive with the People for far too long.
http://www.judicialwatch.org/archive/2001/printer_1062.shtml

And Jerome Hauer is in charge of US biodefense!:argh:
