Re: Schultz - Rhodes - I'm firmly in Schultz's corner
I was reading about the new conflict that has broken out between these two, and I gotta say I'll take Schultz over Rhodes any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Rhodes comes off as rude and insufferable while Schultz actually listens to callers and hears them out, and then is friendly about deconstructing their arguments if they are in the GOP camp.

Hey, I know there are many Rhodes fans but I also know there are many who feel the way I do from threads I have seen in the past on DU.

If there really is a war on then I say go Schultz!!!

1. count me on your side, quinnox
Altho Schultz sometimes shouts the really obnoxious callers down, he's not as consistently bellicose as Randi is.

2. I agree
"Rude" and "insufferable" women deserve to be called "slut" by men. Thanks for playing. :eyes:

3. So you don't have a problem with him calling her a "slut"?

Yes or no, and don't dissemble.

:grr:

6. That was probably over the line BUT
I don't blame Schultz for striking out after all the insults Rhodes has thrown his way in the past weeks.

Schultz finally responded and he should have used different language, but sometimes in anger these things unfortunately happen.

15. He's calling Randi a slut isn't he just striking out
it's his true colors showing through loud and clear. He should be removed from KPOJ and Randi broadcasted live.

But so does Randi Rhodes owe Ed as well!

20. I would say calling a women a slut sounds too much like a Repub
to me. He should not be acting like this and try and say what he wants without degrading women.

7. I like Randis schtick...
Very New York...I do wish she would use less of the mute button...Ed Schultz sounds too much like Limbaugh. If he called her a slut on air he's a moron, but whatever pissing match they might be in isn't really relevant to me.

10. Exactly. I don't recall her calling Schultz a name.
"Rhodes comes off as rude and insufferable while Schultz actually listens to callers and hears them out..."

Whatever. Rhodes is a democrat. Schultz is a rightwing republican who found out that aping all the other right-wing hosts out there was getting him bupkis, so he decided to stake out a piece of the new and growing liberal talk radio niche. He's an opportunist and his politics are little different from Alan Colmes (though being less of a doormat, Schultz would probably be a much better foil for InSannity) Like Colmes, he's one of those democrats who doesn't consider any story remotely credible iff it hasn't been vetted and repeated nonstop by the mainstream corporate media.

I don't trust Schultz at all. Randi was there for us in S. Florida before, during and after 9-11, and NEVER jumped on the fellate-Bush bandwagon.

11. I heard it yesterday
And yes, calling Randi a slut is wrong. Schultz should never have said that. He owes Randi an apology.

I also heard Randi call Ed a Republican. That was a couple of weeks ago.

The whole thing is ridiculous. I listen to and enjoy both shows, they are not mutually exclusive.

Lefties have complained for years about the 450 right-wingers doing talk radio. Now lefty radio is growing, and they're going to get into a public pissing match?

We all lose on this deal.

4. Put me in the "don't give a shit" column...
...they're just radio hosts. I can tune in or not. I listen to Randi because I stream AirAmerica. I'm sure Schultz is good, too.

So, what's next?

Star Trek vs Battlestar Galactica?

5. Schultz makes a point of reaching out to the other side
Randi doesn't, but she is forceful and provocative, while Schultz is definitely middle of the road. They are both assets. I don't see why they have to get into this feud; it's a waste of time. And there is no point in picking sides. Let's remember our priorities.

9. Exactly, and we need Repubs to vote our way in Nov.
So Ed is definitely helping our cause in a better way than a Rhodes is.

13. Schultz's gun-lovin', porterhouse-chewin' brand of moderatism
will certainly bring pugs, or pug-leaning swing voters over, but he is not a true liberal. Nothing wrong with what he's doing, but also many swing voters appreciate someone who speaks her mind. Randi appeals to them, and she certainly appeals more to the single woman demographic than Ed does. They both serve a useful function.

8. She was already on his case a few weeks ago...
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 01:11 PM by LisaM
she said he was a Republican. Frankly, I'd rather be called a slut than a Republican, but I just see it as two different types who bring two different brands of liberalism to the table. I don't see why they can't appreciate each other for what they are, because otherwise liberal radio will just be a bunch of clones like conservative radio is. She's not going to appeal to hunters and football fanatics and he's not going to appeal to New York coffee shop types, and so what? So we get people who appeal to both. The real problem is they are competing for the same time slot and perceive that their audience is narrow (I don't think it is, but they need to get on more stations so people in different markets can choose one or the other.)

he was totally over the line yesterday. I don't care what anyone thinks about Randi's style, Ed had no business calling her a slut.

14. Randi is an "opinionated" woman
some men can handle it without being threatened, some can't. Schultz, apparently can't; hence the "slut" comment.
