Bush rally was sad day for democracy
http://springfield.news-leader.com/opinions/today/0803-Bushrallyw-147362.html

snip - When gatekeepers announced final seating for those with tickets, protesters with tickets tried to get in, but their tickets were grabbed and torn up, and police threatened them with arrest if they argued back. One woman screamed, "You're tearing up my ticket," and hit back at the man when he started shoving her with his chest, trying to shut her up. The police arrested the woman. Two other people were "taken down": a young girl who could not back up fast enough because there were so many people behind her and a man who is charged with trespassing because he was standing on property his own tax dollars partially funded.

All this, while the Bush supporters passed by, granted access to the president of us all because they would shout his praises at the appropriate moments.

When "this is what democracy looks like" arose from the protesters this time, it had an ominous tone. People were being taken down, and the picture was not pretty.

4. Thanks Springfield
The city is a shithole. A pure, right wing, lock step stinking irredeamable cesspool. Strongarm tactics by the police are commonplace. God forbid you are black and leave your "ghetto." Yes there is a ghetto, in which the lion's share of the black population lives. It is the city of Ashcroft, where people that make Ashcroft look liberal have a lot of power. Nearly 30 years of my life were wasted on that place. Liberals of Springfield...move out while you can!

5. I talked to a young man
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 01:00 PM by Bluzmann57
who tried to get in but couldn't because he refused to say he was going to vote for bush. He was wearing an Air Force shirt, and was tried to explain to them that he was enlisting. They told him that his hair was too long, he couldn't be in the Air Force. He showed them his recruitment card, and they still wouldn't let him in. That is not the America that I choose to live in, one that turns away a young man just because he is exercising his freedoms, which he is even willing to join the Air Force for. Go fuck yourself bushies! on edit- the incident I am talking about happened in Davenport, IA. I have no link except for the man himself.

13. Were the tickets paid for?
Were they compensated for the torn up tickets?

And how was it known they were protesters? Why can't someone with no protest signs geet through and verbally protest?
