REM's Mike Mills made one small factual error on "The Al Franken Show."
Mills stated that Bruce Springsteen has never before come out either for or against a presidential candidate. Actually, during his 1988 concert tour, the Boss was known to tell his audience, "Don't vote for that fucking Bush!"

1. Can you find a source on this?
That doesn't sound like Bruce.

However, he did make it very clear that he did not want Reagan to use "Born In The USA" during campaigning in 1984. Nevermind how hilarious it was for that song to be played at Reagan campaign stops. Clearly, no one on the campaign had listened to the lyrics.

3. Paul Slansky mentioned it in his 1989 book...

Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 01:12 PM by rocknation
here's the http://www.moveonpac.org/content/pdfs/vfc_pressrelease.pdf">press release from Moveonpac.org. According to their web site, these acts will be touring together:

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band / R.E.M. / John Fogerty / Bright Eyes

Pearl Jam / Death Cab for Cutie

Dave Matthews Band / Jurassic 5 / My Morning Jacket

Dixie Chicks / James Taylor

Jackson Browne / Bonnie Raitt / Keb' Mo'

John Mellencamp / Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds

Ben Harper has also signed on.

Where's the hard rock/hiphop contigent for the younger voters we so desparately need? This is okay, but only in a Woodstock/nostalgia sort of way.

8. Kevin Moore! Ben Harper!
What a line-up! Maybe Puffy will join for the baggy pants crowd. Or Chuck D can take a LOA from his AAR gig.

11. I thought I'd heard Russell Simmons was involved too...
Maybe he'll be lining up acts aimed at a younger audience.

5. During his shows all last summer and fall
Springsteen was constantly talking about us being mislead into war and as the tour progressed he became more and more anti-bush in his talk during the shows.

7. Back during Reagan's day, Springsteen voiced objections to
the Reagan campaign using "Born in the USA" as theme music. He's been on the Good Guys team for a LONG time.

10. R.E.M. are at their best when a Republican is president.
So it sucks that they'll only release two albums during Bush's term, and "Reveal" wasn't the least bit political (but still really good). But their new one comes out on 10/5 and is called "Around the Sun", even though it should be called "Pissed-off Democrats Bring Down a Presidency With Rock & Roll".
