When did the memo on "Democrat Party" go out?
I've just noticed the dittoheads doing this the past few months. Even the local dittohead (Jay Severin in Boston) is doing it.

When did this start? Recently from a Rove memo to all dittoheads or has it been going on for years and I just never noticed?

2. I think they are doing it to take away the word
"Democratic" from the party. Its purposely done in my opinion.

5. Yes.
It's definitely on purpose and they are definitely doing it because they don't like us being called Democratic.

However, it's fishy that they're all doing it now at the same time. I'm wondering when the Rove memo went out telling them all to do it. ;)

3. Years and years.
Reagan started it, iirc. It's just lain dormant because it's so lame that even most Republicans don't bother with it, unless they are reading considerably below grade level.

4. Some language games
They are trying to disassociate us from the words "democracy" and "democratic".

6. I'm not even sure why it caught on.
Is "Democratic" more complimentary than "Democrat?"

By referring to our party as the "Democratic Party," does that infer that the Republicans are "anti-democratic," and that's why they changed it?

Someone enlighten me.

7. Nixon - Agnew years.
The rank and file repubs started this in the 60's for the very reason you suggest - "democratic" sounds better, suggests good ideas. What's a republican anyway?

8. dems just party
There is a big difference between the Democratic Party (long, honorable tradition) and the Democrat Party because real, god-fearin Merkins know that the dems are weak, sinful party animals.

Which reminds me of the abbreviation of Democratic to "dems." Pisses me off that they get away with this crap. I once wrote a piece on how the Republicans should be called the pubics so that their abbreviation would be as derogatory as "dems."

10. The party's name
was the Democratic Republican party. The Republican part of the name was dropped.

9. Newt Gingrich and GOPAC
Language, A Key Mechanism of Control was the pamphlet that Newt's political action committee sent out to republicans everywhere way back in 1990. I believe it was in this pamphlet that he said republicans should call it the "Democrat Party." This is also the pamphlet that published the list of negative words that republicans should use when talking about Democratic party members and issues. Words like crisis, decay, radical and traitors. It also contained a list of positive words to use when talking about Republicans and their issues, such as reform, principle, care, and family.

11. Lost In Translation
Understanding Repubican memes:

  • "reform" = destruction (welfare reform, tort reform)

  • "principle" = lie or distortion (taxes=extortion, marriage=man+woman)

  • "care" = neglect (caring about the American people, taking care of natural resources)

  • "family" = unit of social conformity
