Do Democrats need to use humor more as a political weapon ?
I just caught the tail end of Brit Hume's show on FOX and they were trying to show something funny about Kerry and Edwards together. They were laughing uncontrollably. They use humor more than the Democrats, in my opinion.

However, with the ammunition that we have in office now, I do no tknow why Democrats don't bring out the big guns more often? It's true Jon Stewart, Dave Letterman, and a few others will make make fun of Dubya and Cheney but few "legit" reporters, other than FOX, will resort to humor.

But, I would like to see a humorous ad from the Democrats. Not serious at all, but just funny as hell. Make fun of the brilliant person that is supposedly in charge. I would love to see this. :)

1. Um Will Ferrell did a hilarious
bush spoof recently in an ad for Americans Coming Together (ACT).

Does anyone have the link?

Or just google Will Ferrell Americans Coming Together and that should pull it up.

2. I would absolutely love
to see this used. It would get attention and people wouldn't ignor it. It also would make people start thinking about just what an idiot he really is.

4. Republicans and democrats have different personalities
I can tell the difference between a repub and a democrat just by listening to them. Most republicans tend to create a laugh by making fun of something or someone and they lack humor elsewhere and oftentimes are boring. I guess if that what floats their boat.

5. in 96 Dole said something like "smoking isn't so bad" + he
was followed to every speech/rally with someone dressed up like a puffing cigarette. It really unnerved him.

It would be great if we could find some clear symbol like that and take it everywhere and make sure W sees it.

Also crowds laughed every time the cig showed up.

6. We do use humor,,,
Bill Mahr, Michael Moore, Jon Stewart, Al Franken. Republicans don't use humor--they use RIDICULE. There's a world of difference. They aren't subtle enough to use true humor.

10. I think you make your statement correctly
As I have observed, republicans even in non politcal socializing will you riducle to provoke laughs, contrary to most most democrats who use humor. Not all republicans ridicual and some democrats do , but for the most part, republicans make a laugh out of somebody elses expense.

8. That's part of the Rove plan this month... "humor and strategic ridicule"
... of Kerry.

I don't remember where I read it, but it will be a big part of the convention too. Everyone will be making fun of Kerry. Expect the space suit photo to be shown extensively.

9. What about this trick ?
Some tall guy about 6'8" tall follows the Bush campaign around. He wears a long white robe and has a long flowing beard. He has an uncanny resemblance to Osama bin Laden...Would that blow their mind? :)

14. Generalities
From an overall, very superficial standpoint, the difference between Republican and Democrat political humor can be summed up as follows:

Republicans ridicule personal traits, and use non-sequitur arguments to connect reality to a kind of exaggerated, debasing joke. For example, Kerry looks French, so he's obviously weak on defense. Teresa Heinz Kerry is "opinionated" which means "frothing dominatrix bitch" in GOP-speak (nobody calls Ann Coulter opinionated).

Democrats make jokes about the logical faults of the opposition. Jon Stewart's entire opening sequence to TDS is devoted to this form. Bill Maher similarly built a show around it. Though we do have our exceptions, like today's corn threads.

He was showing a clip of all the gourmet dining on the campaign trail... Kerry at Wendy's ...Bush at the ribs place...then at the end, he makes a snide remark, "Anybody want a pretzel??" :)
