I think the Illinois Republicans are racist
they are scurrying to find a black candidate to run against Obama.

Why does the person have to be black?

Are they trying to divide the blacks in Illinois?

3. Bingo
They are absolutely beyond desperate. They couldn't even find a suitable black Republican in Illinois, so they had to get one from what...Maryland?

but there are plenty of black racists -- on both sides.

25. no it wasn't sarcasm
I am not concerned with the bigotry of people who are not in power. White on black racism is the only racism that counts AFAIAC.
But you are right there is bigotry to go around.

8. Since the Repub candidate is a sacrificial lamb anyway, I'm not sure why
they felt they had to troll out of state for Keyes. Any bland white Republican in Illinois would have been sufficient.

I am assuming they consider the race lost and are just trying to have the slot occupied to save face, not planning to put a ton of effort or money into it.

11. Now, tell me,
is Mr. Keyes going to be branded a carpetbagger the way Hillary Clinton was when she ran for Senator?

People who live in glass houses...

And what goes around, comes around...

I was a bit disappointed in Ms. Clinton for doing that. She could've done a lot for Arkansas.

New York when Senator Patrick Moynihan left?

I think they really did want to live in New York, though.

supporting a much larger base in a more visible position. Much better springboard to bigger and better things.

26. No, sorrry, you're wrong
My beloved Arkansas would have defeated her for sure. Remember, this is the state of Huckabee, a minister in the shape of a governor. They would have crucified her with the closemindedness that cloaks my home state. Arkansas, the Land of Opportunity...as long as you come from somewhere else, with lots of cash.

30. As my brother in law says
Little Rock and North Little Rock would go solidly democratic. Its all the rural bible-thumpers that would throw the state for the Repubs. Oh, and the Bentonville crowd (Walmart HQ) would of course throw their weight behind the Repubs. As for president this year, I project AR to be very tight....it will go to Bush most likely.

12. You think?
After having predominantly white male candidates in the primary to having a run-off between two black candidates, one female, once they noticed how popular their opponent was? How could race have possibly played a part in their decision? }(

Okay, I've even made myself sick with that one. :puke:

But the Goopers here in Illinois can't see the forest for the trees.

I said this the night of Barack's keynote speech, if they resurrected Abraham Lincoln, Barack would still win.

What they don't get is that Barack Obama appeals to people across racial lines. He had a huge win in the primary in March.

23. Running Keyes would be so dumb.
A bland white guy would get more of the repuke vote. The racists will just stay home - which will hurt the chimp, too. It's funny to watch their desperation.
