What's the deal with this new crap book "Unfit to Command"?
Edited on Thu Aug-05-04 05:18 AM by Ruffhowse
Who is this O'Neill guy and why should his book be given any credibility? Is he the same guy who Nixon rolled out to counter Kerry in the early 70's? What can we do to counter this book?

6. GOP sets up a smear campaign and DU helps it along by
flooding the forum with threads talking about the GOP smear campaign. The smear campaign is working. Instead of paying attention to the Democratic campaign DU is being distracted to only those items the GOP wants us to talk about.

It will be a miracle if Kerry manages to pull off a win in this election with supporters such as this.

2. A career reborn. Nixon hatchetman back on the prowl
I wonder what he has been doing for the past 30 years. Working for Enron perhaps? Or raising pigs in Crawford?

4. One of his partners worked for Ken Lay
And I believe, maybe I'm remembering wrong, he was on Bush's legal team when he was governor in '98-'99. I think he is getting paid biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig money from the bushcos to have this book out.

7. Look Around, You'll Learn A Lot
The story we're getting so far about O'Neill:

1.) Swiftboat Cpt. AFTER Kerry served. Never served with Kerry, nor did anyone else in his "Veteran's Group"

2.) Was sought out by Charles Colson...Watergate convict...to rebut The Vietnam Veterans Against The War and Kerry in specific. Was even mentioned on the infamous Nixon tapes about this.

3.) Was booked on the Dick Cavett show in 1971 to try to embarass Kerry and got embarass himself (more the reason I think he's going after Kerry now)

4.) Clerked for William Rehnquist...Nixon appointee and favorite SCOTUS pick.

5.) Law partners in Houston with tons of ties to the BFEE...one served as Bunnypant's Lt. Governor and another, I think, was his press secretary.

And we still haven't found all the other goodies that I'm sure will come out on this slime as he sticks his nose in a place it doesn't belong.

Instead of this book pissing people off at Kerry, it'll just shine a brighter light on where Commander Bunnypants was during his military years.

AWOL versus Bronze Star, Silver Star, 3 Purple Hearts.

2.7 Million Jobs Lost versus 10 Million in jobs in the first 4 years.

100,000 cops taken off the streets versus 100,000 on the streets

Fear vs. Hope

Zero vs. Hero

John O'Neill versus the Truth

10. Heck I don't think s/he meant any harm
I had asked about this earlier as well. It's not that I want to make people stop focusing on the campaign, it's that I want to be better informed so when people in my day to day life say "Well Kerry's own swiftboat mates think he's unfit for service" I can say "screw you pal, here's what really happened". I support Kerry wholeheartedly, and that's why I want to know what the deal is on these "talking points" so I can counter them. Being a good Kerry supporter means fighting for your beliefs when you come face to face with what could be an undecided voter who might be slanting towards Bush, not tucking tail and running. I don't ask these questions because I expect somoene to say "It's all true, Kerry is horrible" I ask because I want to know.

11. Goddamit, I'll tell you what the big deal is.
Edited on Thu Aug-05-04 07:45 AM by oldtimer1942
They are making political hay out of lies, and the truth needs to come out. That is what the big deal is. We need ads to come out exposing these lies, pronto. Look, if we can expose these as the lies they are, and couple that with the matter of Bush's AWOL, then we can score big. If you ignore these lies, and take the high road, the low road bandits will put that asshole back in office. That is what the goddam big deal is! x(
