Excellent letter in Miss. Clarion-Ledger bashing Halliburton

No-bid contracts allow 'looting' in Iraq

As per the letter from Hank and Carol Teller of Oak Grove, I too am appalled at Halliburton's flagrant greed ("Cheney's old firm the real 'obscenity,' " July 14). Our fighting men and women are paid a fraction of a civilian contractor's salary.

Borrowing World War II-era language, Sen. Diane Feinstein, a "liberal" Democrat from California, proposed an amendment that would criminalize war profiteering. The Republican leadership not only killed the idea, but gave additional opportunity for further abuse of no-bid contracts by increasing the limit from $7.5 billion to $200 billion, paving the way for more obscene looting of our national treasury.

I am the wife of an Air Force veteran. My only brother survived the battle of Iwo Jima. Our "family values" don't include evading the draft or exploiting hard-working taxpayers in the name of patriotism.

2. Good letter

Did you read the trashy letter today referring to the weight of people receiving federal assistance through Medicade and Food Stamps? It was nauseating. There are some really great people living down here but there are also some stone-age pricks.
