Kerry leading by 13 in NJ
that's a little more like it ... I was starting to get a little worried about the Garden Staters

WASHINGTON - John Kerry (news - web sites) has reclaimed a healthy lead in Democratic-leaning New Jersey, where he holds a double-digit lead over President Bush (news - web sites), according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday.

The poll, taken after the Democratic National Convention, found Kerry with the backing of 49 percent, Bush with 36 percent and independent Ralph Nader (news - web sites) with 6 percent.

3. Not really news though.
Republicans rarely do well in NJ.

4. true, but there were some worrisome polls up there lately
the June poll from the same group only had Kerry up 6 and they've been mentioning a poll on TV lately that only had Kerry up 1 ... there's no way this state should be that close -- hopefully he'll win at least this comfortably

6. If NJ were to go to Bush, or any Republican, it would be a sure sign...
...of the impending end of the world.

5. But they were doing unusually well
in NJ for a while. It was not nearly as blue as NY.

7. The Fairleigh Dickinson poll has consistently been 10 pts. off.
In April, FDU PublicMind had it at Kerry 48-Bush 47.

Everyone else has had Kerry leading NJ by 8-12 points for months. I can't figure out what the deal is with the FDU poll.

8. Nader will not get 6%
he didn't get anywhere 6% in 2000 and it is less likely that more people will vote for him this time--at least some of that Nader vote probably will end up in the Kerry column as well.
