BBV: Ben Cohen's True Majority buys radio ads criticizing BBV (WA)

Radio ads criticize paperless balloting
Ben & Jerry's founder Ben Cohen is campaigning against Snohomish County's touch-screen system.

By Jerry Cornfield
Herald Writer

EVERETT - The latest concoction from a millionaire founder of the Ben & Jerry's ice-cream empire is a bit too sour for Bob Terwilliger's taste.

Its flavor is politics, 100 percent pure, no sugar added.

The Snohomish County auditor got a big scoop of it this past week as dozens of residents phoned his office to voice concern about the use of touch-screen voting machines.

People called after hearing a radio ad created by TrueMajority, the Vermont-based Internet political operation funded with Cohen's riches.

The 30-second spot contends that electronic voting machines cannot be trusted to record votes as cast unless there is a paper record of the individual vote. "The truth is your vote might disappear," warns a narrator, who dishes up the county auditor's phone number and urges listeners to call Terwilliger to "demand a paper record."

Ten people did that first day, July 28. By the time the last ad ran Tuesday, 82 calls had been logged by Betty Scrapper, Terwilliger's secretary.

article goes on to later say that... "(Snohomish County auditor Bob Terwilliger) has invited skeptics to watch when experts certifiy the devices for upcoming elections."

Will anybody in WA have reports on this so called certification?

3. Maybe David Dill, Rebecca Mercuri, and Avi Rubin could watch when
"experts" attempt to certify these devices, and explain to Bob why the certification process is or is not valid.

Perhaps one of the reasons would be that the machines can possibly be altered between the time of the certification and the actual election, and for this reason alone, evoting devices are suspect and are not suitable for use as a verifiable and fully auditable voting device.

5. I would not count on Rubin or Dill...

to protect your ballot...they both seem to be on board with the votehere model.

Edit: I could be wrong about Rubin and Dill...If so I would sincerely like to hear a repudiation of crypto as a solution from them both.

Here is an internal Document from Diebold. David Jefferson and Avi Rubin both are mentioned as part of a "Focus Group"

6. Andy, this attack is BS and I won't sit back and listen to it anymore
DO NOT falsely accuse people of things that you are just guessing about. That email and the chicken scratches on it are from Diebold and not from David Dill or Avi Rubin or Barbara Simons or David Jefferson. I have gotten emails from David Dill, Avi Rubin and David Jefferson and passed them along to you via Red Eagle. You know that none of them accept any voting verification software in place of a paper ballot. They have all said the same thing. Paper ballots are a necessity, even when voter verification software is used.

I don't understand this need to constantly put down the work of others in this movement. We all need to work together and stop this garbage of trying to make ourselves look better by putting others down. Quit being small and accept that you are only one of hundreds of people working on this issue.

I hate to have had to write that but I am sick and tired of looking on here and seeing someone else taken down by Andy. I am especially tired of it because I need Andy's help here in Washington state where we have 6 counties who are going to be using uncertified software and we all need to work together to figure out what to do about it.
