The White House has DECLINED to condemn the Swift Boat liars!!!!
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040805/ap_on_el_pr/kerry_mccain

Republican Sen. John McCain, a former prisoner of war in Vietnam, called an ad criticizing John Kerry's military service "dishonest and dishonorable" and urged the White House on Thursday to condemn it as well.

The White House declined.

-snip-

White House spokesman Scott McClellan declined to condemn the ad. He did denounce the proliferation of spending by independent groups, such as the anti-Kerry veterans organization, that are playing on both sides of the political fence.

"The president thought he got rid of this unregulated soft money when he signed the bipartisan campaign finance reform into law," McClellan said. A chief sponsor of that bill, which Bush initially opposed, was McCain.
--------------------------------------------------

And then Scottie uses this as a chance to take a swipe at Campaign Finance Reform (McCain's bill)!!!!!!! :grr: :grr:

When mccain asked bush to condemn the thomas burch crap thrown at him in South Carolina, bush responded by defending burch's right to his opinion.

bush is a complete fraud. He stood next to this jerk while he smeared mccain knowing everything being said was completely false. bush is all for freedom of speech as long as it's being used to discredit his opponent. Otherwise there should be limits on it.

That would mess up any "terraist" plans by shortening their time. I'm ready to vote right now!! bush* are you just gonna let the election be a sitting duck? Plans for postponing it isn't leadership, it's followship. bush* are you gonna wait for an attack before moving heaven and earth to protect us? bush* are you a wimp and a wussy like your dad? C'mon bush*y, let's do it next Tuesday, August 10. What are ya skeered?

12. Well, they are such slime balls but this will probably work to Kerry's
advantage.

Now, the issue can be how terrible and scurrilous this ad is and that the WH wont disavow it.

South Carolina and what they did to McCain can be lumped in with what they are trying to do to Kerry and how this is the only way Chimpy can win.

All of their continuing negative attacks can continue to play into the idea of how desperate they are and that they will stop at nothing.

Much like Dean has been an attack dog for us on other issues, we NEED to get Wes out there to counter-attack.

He NEEDS to go on the press and:

1) As a militray man, condemn any vet who would slander another vet for politcal purposes.

2) Condemn McCain for standing by a man and a party who wouldn't condemn this.

3) Point out the fact that this IS a republican smear campaign....none of the vets served with Kerry and O'Neil has been after Kerry for 30 years. Also point out the money...where it came from...where it goes.

4)Call Bush out...AWOL AWOL AWOL!

Tom Oliphant, who covered Kerry for thirty years, says the minute McCain spoke changed the equation, according to TV people he talked to

he says the WH is in a quandry over this

I don't get that, cause WHO believes the WH isn't DIRECTLY involved in this?

is he that naiive?

he seems to think they're not sure how to treat this now

how could they NOT, if they're not behind it?

am I wrong here?

involved and his asking for the White House to disavow this may be payback of some sort because they did the same thing to him. I keep trying to look for a flip side that might help Bush, maybe to get military service off the table completely somehow. I am not sure how to read McCains's actions at this point. He has disappointed me in the past.
