what's to stop "keyes-ing" of more elections?
put up a candidate, knowing he has skeletons in his closet, out him, make him walk the plank, plop down the insider's choice. granted, i don't think what happened here in ill. was planned. but take a look at the difference between the 2 finalists, and all the white bread thugs that ran in the primary. what a nice advantage to get a good look at the competition, then plop down a tailor made star.
just the kind of thing the thugs could get used to.

1. Keyes may be a star in the neo con community
but he hardly represents the values of most in IL.

He is anti choice.
He is anti gays.
He is anti affirmative action.

He has never lived there and doesn't now. He denounced HRC when she ran in NY nd she at least did live there well before the election.

He has never won anything--not even a primary!

The question is not whether Obama will win but by how much.

3. all Obama has to do is bring up local issues
Keyes will look like a dumb for not knowing squat about IL, Hillary on the other hand went to New York for a year, talked with the people and learned their issues.

7. I think what the OP means is the REVERSE-Keyesing of elections.
You put up a stinky candidate that attacks and can go psycho on the opponent, leak some bad info and plop in an "Obama-type" winner.

10. exactly, thanks
not talking about the carpetbagger thing. besides, hillary didn't have a "permanent" address before she moved to ny.
toricelli wasn't the same either. he was an incumbent.

5. I'm not sure we have a lot of room to cry injustice here....
Considering the Torricelli situation in NJ.

And to some degree Hillary! in New York. Granted, nobody got turfed to allow Hillary to become the savior, but every Democrat in New York stepped aside to allow her to run.

Of course, the big difference is, nobody is going to vote for Keyes.

9. Not quite the same thing. Lautenberg was at least a credible stand in.

He was a former Senator and a resident of N.J. For it to be the "same thing" the N.J. Dems would have gone and gotten someone like Ralph Nader to run in Torricelli's place. (Perennial candidate who has never won anything but has national star appeal).

8. Keyes my yet pull a "Ditka" and decline to run. He is "considering" the
offer by the Illinois pugs. He has said that he thinks carpetbagging is not a good idea. We will see if he remains true to his principles.
