Poll question: Do You Consider The Drudge Report To Be A Reliable News Source?

On a scale of 1-10, with a 1 being, lets say, the Weekly World News and a 10 being the New York Times or Washington Post, I would consider Drudge to be about a 6.

Yeah, he posts inane, sometimes totally false information, but when he does post factual stuff, it's usually on that site before it hits anywhere else. He has, from what I can gather, TONS of sources (though not always reliable) and, you'll have to admit, as a resource, the site is pretty good. It lists tons of web pages for just about every major news maker or news organization around.

Personally, even though I think he's a right-wing hack, he serves some sort of journalistic purpose. Maybe not what some (or most) people around here would find valuable enough. But I find him useful and freely admit to visiting his site a few times throughout the day to see what the big story is.

Sure, he makes shit up sometimes and sure, he gets stuff wrong, but I don't think there's a news organization that at one time hasn't messed up something huge.

And anywhoo, whenever he posts something that works in our favor we usually don't poo-poo it. I've rarely seen an anti-Bush story that was linked from Drudge that had people saying "yeah, but it's Drudge."

So what do you think, is Drudge reliable, or not?

1. He's a -49 in my book

He's altered pictures, fabricated stories, and spread flat out lies. Just a week or so ago, my right wing neo-con asshole roommate came home saying they found nuclear missiles outside of Baghdad. Where'd he get the story? Drudge. End of story - he's a flat out liar.

A blind pig will find an acorn sometimes, but I don't believe ANYTHING in Drudge until I see it in a reputable news source.

But as a site, I think it's a pretty valuable resource. I'd never find Molly Ivins or Jon Connason without his site.

Some stuff he has is good, but other stuff is garbage.

4. It depends

Most of his so-called scoops are very unreliable. If it says "Drudge Original", or anything like that, it's bogus. But sometimes he does have a few hour advance on stories from the NY Times or Wash Post.

7. I usually trust him and take him as credable

when he claims a big story will be in a major newspaper the following day.

of a Yak post that is a spoof of a Cat post that was originated by an overseas story about a giant python that is actually only 1/25 scale model filmed by the director of old Godzilla movies shown on Sunday that you are only allowed to watch in the recently flooded and dried, but still moldy smelling, basement on the 13" black-and-white tv that your dad found in the trash 5 years ago and brought home as a "gift for the family" but the sound cuts in and out.
