CNN has "invited" Terry McAuliffe to react at RNC convention after Bush!!!
Edited on Thu Aug-05-04 02:20 PM by jackstraw45
This according to the Chief News Executive at CNN via email.

I guess the proof will be in the pudding...look forward to seeing if people post that he does, if fact, react to the speech on CNN.

Now let's confirm that the invitation will be ACCEPTED by Mr. McAuliffe.

Call or email the DNC and ask if the invitation by CNN has been accepted:

202-863-8000

or

http://www.democrats.org/contact/

We don't want to hear on convention night that they didn't "get" the invitation or some other excuse from either CNN or the DNC.

4. They also need Mike Malloy, Randi Rhodes, etc. to cover the
event. And talk over the speeches when they feel it's appropriate.

5. well, he said they are also inviting "other prominent democrats"
Probably means "GOP Joe" and Zell but at least we have McAuliffe by name.

8. The only way we'd get the equivalent of Ralph Reed, Brent Bozell...
The only way we'd get the equivalent of Ralph Reed, Brent Bozell and others would be if they invited Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn and the like on there.

15. Oh Noam and Howard Zinn!
That would be fantastic! However, I won't get my hopes up. Maybe I will send an e-mail suggesting those two.

18. I know, but
Reed, Hannity, Bozell, Limbaugh, Coulter, etc are SO FAR out there to the right, that no mainstream Democrat is even close to as far left as they are to the right...

9. That's what I expect them to do. They'll either use Lieberman
and Miller, or they'll go for the spineless wimps like Alan Colmes.

6. Good news, but
I expect Joe Lieberman to also be given extensive air time, as he seems to be a favorite of Larry King.

10. Amen to that....Krugman rocks
It's great to have his voice at the NY Times.

But we have to keep the pressure on. The DNC needs to book STRONG voices for the Democratic party at the RNC convention.

...he had better be very prepared if he decides to go.

12. How can he NOT go? If he's not prepared, he shouldn't be DNC Chairman....
It should be easy to DESTROY anything they throw at him if he's prepared, as he SHOULD be.

This is a BIG chance for redemption, in my eyes, for McAuliffe after the 2002 election fiasco.

McAuliffe is too nice in my opinion. Better than nothing I guess...and certainly better than Zell Miller.

appearance, on a split-screen, the second Kerry finished speaking. The RNC chairman was allowed to go on and on, bashing Kerry, ruining the moment for any Democrat watching CNN, and prejudicing undecided viewers.

On edit: If CNN were smart they'd include Dean also, not only for his opinions but because he's great TV.

16. Dont get too excited.....
when will CNN have McCauliffe on after Bush's speech? Will it be an hour after the speech? CNN had McCauliffe's counterpart from the repubs RIGHT AFTER KERRY AND EDWARDS SPEECHES....if McCauliffe comes on CNN an hour later it will lose its effect. Just watch how CNN handles this in order to protect their fearless leader.

19. Here is what I was told:
"CNN is inviting Mr. McAuliffe and other prominent Democrats to react on CNN to Bush's convention speech immediately after it happens."

FWIW.

21. It's not over yet
We MUST keep the pressure on CNN. People here at DU know that they are biased towards the right, but most of America still thinks that they are a trusted news source.

Keep the letters flowing!

23. I think it would be dumb of MacCauliffe to do it IMMEDIATELY after.
I thought it was classless of Gillespie and it would be classless of Terry to follow suit.

Let them have their whore pundits address it first and THEN let Terry have at it.

TMac should refuse to be used like that.
