http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=676&e=3&u=/usatoday/20040805/ts_usatoday/bushintusslefornhvotesUnder the red, white and blue flags and screaming eagle rugs adorning the All American Grille, the buzz was not heartening for President Bush (news - web sites).
Customer Jeff Thom, who didn't vote in the last presidential race, said he's "definitely" going to cast a ballot against the president. "He's made a mess of things," Thom said.
The diner's owner, Ken Roderick, a registered Republican who voted for Bush in 2000, said he's not sure he'll do so again. His assistant, Matt Belanger, an out-of-work computer technician who's making ends meet as a short-order cook, was irate about an invitation he recently received to a $2,500-a-plate fundraiser for the president. "I haven't had a lot of work in the last two years," Belanger said.
If last week's convention did not make much of a dent with undecided voters, it did pump up committed Democrats. At a house party in Portsmouth, one of several Democrats held last weekend, supporters of Howard Dean (news - web sites) and Wesley Clark (news - web sites), two of Kerry's New Hampshire primary opponents, volunteered for campaign duty. "The bottom line is, I will support anybody who will get Bush out of the White House, including my cat," said Amy Pollard, who wore a "Deaniac for Kerry" button.
