Hi there, I just got back from registering to vote "independent". I will be signing up for social security this month too. Got my FL driver's license today too!! Can't vote in primary but can and will vote in November - looks like Kerry gets my vote - haven't voted for a democrat since John F Kennedy - strange that they have the same initials - hope Kerry last longer than Kennedy did. You have helped me see the light and I don't want my grandson drafted.

But are your converts all people who were known to you (family, friends)? This is important info because it might mean that they are more likely to respect your point of view somewhat and listen/read, even if it doesn't seem like it on the surface.

Also, did you screen these converts at all? Meaning did you screen for people who seemed a little more receptive to an actual exchange of ideas? Or did you just pick a gunfight with whoever they had for you and go in guns blazing?

I am just very very curious about how such an email thread would evolve. You are my hero. So you kept sending stuff despite cease and desist requests. Did they keep sending you stuff? Did you always reply all to their list of people? Was there some sign of capitulation before they finally told you they'd changed their mind?

I'm just trying to figure out how you get from the place where you are sending them NYT articles and they are sending you unattributed clone RW hate/attack emails, to where they said they changed their mind. The process seems so remote to me I have a hard time even envisioning it. :shrug:

Sen. Fritz Hollings of SC. Their bill makes sure EVERYBODY has to serve and was written at least partly to bring the topic to public attention. Hollings even said he wouldn't vote for it.

Selective Service still exists, men still register, and Bush* can start drafting people without having to seek Congressional approval.
