Clinton autographs books to raise funds for Holt
Thursday, August 05, 2004

Staff Writer

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP - The star power of former President Bill Clinton drew about 430 people to a farm here yesterday for a pricey fund-raising event benefiting Democratic Rep. Rush Holt.

(SNIP)

"I am so tired of seeing that ad about Kerry voting against the money for the troops," Clinton said to loud applause. "On the other hand, you don't have a very good answer, so I'm going to tell you what happened . . . and I want you to tell your friends and neighbors.

"There were $67 billion in that bill for the troops. He voted for it. But the bill had $87 billion in it or whatever because the president wanted a $20 billion slush fund, I mean a literal slush fund, to do whatever he wanted with. And John said, `I just don't think we need that $20 billion and I just don't trust him to spend it right.' "

After Clinton spoke, Holt explained his vote. "There was this huge slush fund in there. In fact, I put in an amendment that day, which was defeated, that said there would be no uncompeted contracts for that $16 billion. It might be thought of as the Halliburton amendment."

4. I proudly voted for Rush during his first run for Rep....
He ousted an entrenched Repug in a VERY close race.....

There is another story on the booksigning at the Sam's Club nearby....a guy actually traveled a few hundred miles to hassle Clinton....says he's traveled to quite a few Clinton events to protest Clinton.........typical NUTCASE, can't let it go....

5. this talking point from Clinton is great too -
During a 30-minute speech to the crowd, Clinton noted that high-ranking military leaders who served under Democratic and Republican administrations alike are now supporting the Democratic presidential candidate, Sen. John Kerry.

"Why are they doing this? Not because they think President Bush doesn't love his country and doesn't want to defend America, but because they think his decisions are wrong," said the former commander in chief.

He said one citizen he talked to expressed a reluctance to change leaders in the middle of a war. "The Bush administration honestly believed that Saddam Hussein and Iraq were a bigger threat to our security and our future (than Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida), even after 9/11. So we've got 150,000 troops in Iraq and 15,000 in Afghanistan.

"Now if you believe that, then don't change horses in the middle of the stream. But look at this last terror alert. Did it come out of Iraq? Have we ever had a domestic terror alert out of Iraq?"

6. Obvious question.
Why doesn't Kerry explain it in this simple manner? I believe it, but I don't think I've heard Kerry say it.

7. "Halliburton Amendment"
This needs to be said every time Limbaugh, Hannity, Matthews, O'Lielly and all the others bring up the $87 billion dollar flip-flop. A $20 billion slush fund for Bush and his cronies.

Thanks Bill :loveya:

9. Bush also threatened to veto the bill .
The Turd said 'my way or no way'.

Guess he wasn't supporting our troops.
