They're Drinking High Test Kool-Aid: Tonight's Encounter
There's a person who I'm associated with who is your typical dittohead. He's nearly 40...and thinks he knows everything about everything (translation: major bullshitter). He's a great salesman for that reason. Guess it takes one to know one. He's as superfiscial as they come, until you take the time to talk with him and see how confused and conflicted he is. When I chat with him it's like cracking open end-product of the hate radio process. Give him a topic and you'll hear the hate radio spin point.

Tonight he was on a big jag about "trial lawyers". Yep, those trial lawyers are the ones who have made insurance rates go up and all those added costs on my new SUV and yada yada. I go with my typical "WHOA" (always works to slow down a dittohead and does wonders on Freepers as well). I then asked him if he has ever had to go to court? He then starts into a story of a suit he was involved in years ago that almost bankrupted him, but won his case. And I asked who won the case for him. <silence...thud>

Next: the 527s...the America Coming Together Concert. First, he called them Bush-Hate rallies. I said, these are strictly voter registration drives...yes, it will be to support getting out the vote for Kerry, but to expect it to be Bush bashing is a total lie. People will be going to these concerts to hear some great music. I then said there's nothing stopping Toby Keith & Charlie Daniels from doing their own tour, too. He laughed.

He went after Bruce Springsteen...saying how disappointed he was in "The Boss" for speaking out against America. I finally said WHOA! LOUDLY! Bruce Springsteen against America? From passively toying with him, I asked him what songs Springsteen has done that are against America? Born in the USA? Philadelphia? Darkness On The Edge Of Town? <silence>. Next I showed him the Op/Ed from the NYT and said "you show me a single anti-American line in that article". He then said, we'll it wasn't Springsteen, it's types like Streisand. I did another WHOA! Show me what Ms. Streisand has said recently about either the election or trashing Bush? <silence>. Finally I showed him the list of performers. He saw John Mellencamp's name and his jaw dropped. He asked me if that was THE Mellencamp? I shook my head (he's a rural Illinois boy)...and didn't realize his idol was on that list. I have offered to take him to the concert in Milwaukee (My treat...I'd like to go anyway). Let's see if he takes me up on my offer.

Cheers!
