WHY are the GOP still in power ??? ...
They cannot manage a national economy ...

They cannot create jobs ....

They cannot prosecute a war ...

They cannot practice statesmanship ...

They cannot build or even maintain our prestige in the international marketplace of ideas ....

They cannot enrich their citizens ...

They cannot send them to college ...

They cannot feed the hungry, or clothe the naked, or shelter the homeless ....

They are UTTER FAILURES in nearly all avenues of life .... yet they hold power still ...

How long can this go on ??? ...

2. But............
they share our family values. George is such a plain spoken and honest man! He's a good Christian. I'd sure like to sit down and have a beer with him! The Republicans hate gays and minorities. They share our family values!
Black is white, night is day, off is on. This country is fuckes as long as they're in power. When people will finally wake up to these facts are anyone's guess.

8. You think you're being sarcastic, but...
...what underlies that is a lot of truth. The Rethugs have done a better job of playing on peoples' emotions, fears, annoyances, frustrations, and outright hatreds to, as they put it in the Reagan days, paste white hats on themselves and past black hats on their enemies.

Read "What's the Matter with Kansas? : How Conservatives Won the Heart of America" by Thomas Frank, an excellent overview of how too many states were allowed to go "red".

4. Many people don't really enjoy thinking all that much.
The GOP offers them all they could want in a party.

6. They've convinced 50% of the USA than they are the party of "God".
You take away the religious portion of the GOP power base, and you take away almost the whole damn base. All they are left with are the obnoxiously rich and the swing voters. They'd be like a really rich, antithesis of the green party.

7. Well, to quote Frank Zappa...
"Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe."

This is particularly true of your basic neocon's brain cells or lack thereof. Don't try to rationalize it; it's a lost cause.

10. B/c they control the media.
That is only the reason. Without that, they would be the minority they deserve to be.

12. Bottom Line
I, for the life of me, cannot figure out why there are still in power. Especially after reading this from Michael Kinsley:
