The Bush Economy: REVISED Downward Again & Again & Again
Edited on Fri Aug-06-04 11:31 AM by jackstraw45
I'm sick of hearing people saying that the Labor department isn't playing politics with these numbers in an election year. They announce good numbers only to revise them downward months later when it gets less attention:

JOBS

July job report - expected 250,000 new jobs
Real Result: 32,000 jobs

June jobs report was: 112,000 new jobs
later Revised DOWNWARD today to 78,000 jobs

May jobs report: 248,000 new jobs
later Revised DOWNWARD to 208,000 jobs

Herbert Hoover & George Bush share something: A negative jobs record

Who wants to be that, in the next few months, we'll find out that we LOST jobs in July?

1. Bush Daddy used this same tactic
Dan Rather made a fuss about it after the 92 election, but no one cared much.

The good thing is people don't vote because their neighbor's job is insecure. They vote based on their own jobs. They know what's happening, no matter how the media advertises it for W.

2. Either way, the economy is NOT booming
Yet Bush* keeps saying it is...and the corproate media plays down the really really negative economic news...on to Kobe and Scott Peterson!

4. Not sure the news is getting out...
Conservative media won't report it...I guess we'll see how it plays in the corporate media.

Thank goodness for the internet though. I just think of how less informed we'd be.

6. Face it, they're using Enron accounting
And the true tally isn't going to be in until Bushco is out of office, and possibly not even then. Clinton refused to release the true state of the deficit when he took office, for he actually feared for GHWBush's life if he did so.

Don't be suprised in some future year for a historian to announce that we were really in a recession all four years of the current regime.

7. I have heard people talk about 1,000,000 new jobs in the last three months
Even with the adjusted number, there are people still peddling this bullshit.

15. Considering that we need to create 80,000 jobs a month...
simply to stay up with population, as new people enter the workforce, we're now down 49.000 jobs the last two months. So, what the hell are those bozos talking about?

8. Got a link?
Is there a press release with all of this in it? I'd like to post it in a couple of places if there is. I know I can get it at the BLS site, but if there's one press release or story on it, that would be super awesome!

9. ....
for years usually reports are understated and revised upwards

I don't think I have seen so many downward revisions under any president ever.

14. I'd expect July's numbers to be revised down to about 20,000.
I suspect that, all factors considered, we really will lose jobs in August. Things are not looking good out there.
