I got a conservative radio show host to apologize
Edited on Fri Aug-06-04 06:19 PM by Mortos
Yesterday I posted my back and forth with a Conservative Radio Host (ConRad), I thought he was going to explode he was screaming at me and I was giving it back to him. He called Kerry a traitor and I called Bush a coward. He told me to leave the country. I told him if everyone who opposed bush left, the country would be screwed. After our conversation, he said I was banned from calling and he would not read my e-mails anymore. Oh well.

Cut to this morning: I was listening to his show and he went on and on about our conversation from the previous day. He said he thought about it so much that he couldn't sleep. He said that he had gotten several e-mails begging him not to ban me and that I could call in anytime. He said that I was not banned because he only banned idiots and people who cursed and I was not an idiot I was a "solid" intelligent guy who was passionate about my politics. He said he shouldn't have called Kerry a traitor and he was sorry about that. He also said that he had to "give it up to Kerry" for volunteering to fight in a war when bush asked not to go. I couldn't believe it.

I called in and had a rational conversation with him and we both agreed that issues would be better topics than charges from 30 years prior. We both wished each other a good weekend and ended the call.

He then proceeded to attack Kerry for some other aspect of his life but I thought it was an amazing turnaround from the day before.

Weird.

On Edit:

Additional info: It was Jim Traber from Oklahoma City 930 WKY

1. Congrats.
As much as we hate their ideas, gotta do what we can to be bipartisan when we see the need.

Congrats to him for seeing things differently and you for not rubbing his face in it--and bringing up the issue in the first place.

But yeah, I still disagree with him.

2. They Know
They know that they've sold their souls to the devil, and it's a deal that they don't want to consummate.

Second thoughts have begun to intrude. This is a strange time to be a conservative, neo or paleo, old or new, stand-up guy or a**hole.

And that means it's an excellent time to bring them to the Jordan and wash away their sins.

In a manner of speaking.

7. More than "weird"...it's a bloomin' Miracle!
Does that make you feel good or What?

Kerry is certainly not a traitor but I'm not so sure about bush.

Isn't calling the troops to war for personal gain..treasonous?

8. You bet your ass he wants to forget issues from 30 years ago.
That's like Superman saying, "no hitting below the belt, and no kryptonite".

9. That's fantastic! Kudos to both you & the radio host...
Not for his opinions but that he was man enough to accept your opinion.

Where would these talk shows be without diverse opinions?

13. As for the radio host
God willing, he will be out of a job by this time next year.
Then he can enlist.
Oh sorry, I forgot. Chickenhawk talking heads do not do that sort of thing.
Ingrown hairs up the rectum have precluded at least one from Boot Camp.

12. The focus group
probably hated him.
Feedback was most probably running high in your favor
and the sponsors monitor that sort of thing.

What this means is that the rightwingnut media-whores are now running out of steam and realizing that they have lost the support of anything with a functioning brain-stem.

If you look at newspapers, they have lost THOUSANDS of subscribers over the course of the Bush Admionistration. Many lost their jobs and gave up buying papers and others REFUSE to purchase rightwingnut crap.
The fewer the subscribers a paper has, the less it charge on advertising. And the companies that advertise have been hard hit by Busheconomics. Thus the newspaper business is dying of self-inflicted wounds.
TV giants such as ABC, NBC, CBS and upstart Faux, are in the same boat.
Ever since cLEAR Channel went after the Dixie Chicks,
like Earl after Wanda,
they have come realize that it was really not such a smart idea.
Sounds like your Conservative Radio host is getting the same message,
loud and clear.

15. "he couldn't sleep"
That's the most encouraging thing I've read all week. It shows he still has a conscience, and he can still hear it talking to him.

Bush is in bed by 10:00 every night, and "sleeps like a baby." Last year, Colin Powell said he does, too: "Every two hours I wake up screaming."

If more people didn't sleep well, what a wonderful world this would be.
