I Wish to Publicly Apologize to Herbert Hoover
Edited on Fri Aug-06-04 06:14 PM by louis c
For the past year I have said, at all my public speaking opportunities, and in private conversations, "George W. Bush is the worst President since Herbert Hoover".

This statement was made as a comparison of job growth, or lack thereof, the negativity to Organized Labor, the favoritism toward the wealthy, and government assistance to corporations, at the expense of the workers.

This is all true, of course. However, Hoover never lied to start a war, did not burn bridges with long standing alliances, did not outsource American jobs to other countries, and did not leave a staggering deficit that will cripple any future recovery.

So, Mr. Hoover may be one of the worst Presidents in our history, but George W. Bush makes Hoover look downright competent, by comparison.

Bush is, without a doubt, the worst man ever to occupy the White House, and he will be the yardstick by which all past or future incompetence will be measured.

6. Can you post a list for us
of all the statistical and other comparisons between this Administration's record and Hoover? I think it would be a great service.

7. I've Always Stopped at Hoover
because his term was the last of three successive Republican Administrations.

It would take a great deal of research to match up the numbers. In 1932 there was no way to measure unemployment, since there was no compensation. Now, however, there is no way to count the jobless if they stop looking and exhaust their benefits. Job creation was not calculated then, so the stock market was the bench mark to economic strength.

I know that the country did not deficit spend until FDR. The fact that we were without debt in 1933 gave FDR one tool to help the recovery by Government spending on infrastructure projects that put Americans to work. This is an option shut out by the current debt and deficit.

Some historian can probably come up with exact figures, but it is still safe to say that this is the worst since Herbert Hoover, I just think, with a little research and common sense it just might be worse than even that bench mark.

9. Hoover also wanted faith-based initiatives
Hoover, when faced with the Depression, told everyone it wasn't the government's job to help but the churches' job. However, I don't think he gave them an office and funding, so Bush is still the worst.
