Below is my letter to the Dallas Morning News regarding the campaign contributions of Mr. Bob Perry. Mr. Perry is a prime supporter of the Swift Vet group and their personal attacks on John Kerry.

Dear Editor,

I note with interest that US Representative Pete Sessions, currently seeking reelection, has accepted campaign contributions from none other than Mr. Bob Perry and his wife. Campaign research shows that Mr. Perry and his wife contributed $ 4,000 dollars to Mr. Sessions on May 18, 2004.

As noted by the Dallas Morning News recently, Mr. Perry is one of the key contributors to the Swift Vet group now attacking John Kerry. Just this week Senator John McCain denounced the Swift Vet group for their heinous TV attacks on Kerry's war record. Clearly, the Swift Vet group is participating in the politics of personal destruction so denounced by Republicans.

One suggests that Mr. Sessions return the campaign contributions of Mr. Perry and his wife. Otherwise, Mr. Sessions is tacitly condoning the anti-American attacks on a decorated veteran and indirectly endorsing the politics of personal destruction.

How about it Mr. Sessions, are you willing to rise to higher ground and denounce the politics of your patron, one Bob Perry? All Dallas citizens await your answer.

PONTIAC -- The leader of one of Michigan's largest counties on Friday reversed his refusal to fly flags at half-staff to honor troops killed while on active duty.

Gov. Jennifer Granholm last year issued an executive order stating flags should be flown at half-staff from the day of the death or notification of death of a Michigan soldier until the day of interment.

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson initially declined to implement the order, saying it politicized the war on terror and promoted opposition to it. He told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Friday that he ordered flags flown at half-staff after meeting with representatives of veterans groups.

"I'm not trying to erode public support of (President) Bush's war on terror at all. I meant no disrespect. I'm a veteran myself," said Patterson, who served in the Army from 1962-64.
