Infield Terra alert
The Headline on CNN has been "Slowdown in 'chatter' worries officials" now for almost 12 hrs. I got the message. We are again to be worried. If our officials are worried, then so am I.

There is no rise in alert level - just lack of "chatter". But the chatter will come back. It always does in crutch situations.

I feel like a batter waiting to hit in the ninth inning against the powerhouse home team.

Bases loaded, no outs, 0-3 pitch, last three low and away - I know its coming down the middle. . . but wait the infield starts to chatter, "hey batter, batter, hey batter, batter, hey!"

The noise level reaches fever pitch, here it comes - yup, fast ball down the middle.
Time slows down, the chatter fades to the back of my mind - I can see the seams spinning in slow motion and the tattoo "Nov 2, 2004 - Buh Bye Bush" rolling over between them.

The infield chatter is on mute, replaced by a slow, building chant - I hear voices . . .JFK, MLK, RFK, Jimmy Carter, Clinton, Barak Obama, John Edwards, John Kerry . . . and my mother - who always knew the right thing to do - "SWING AWAY".

2. Too Much Chatter, Too Little Chatter...But We're Still In the 6th...
Our pitching has been strong, our defense has made some great plays catching the opposition stealing, but they've still got 18 guys, the rules have been ammended so they get an extra strike and out each of the remaining innings, the umps are their employees and the owners are brothers of the team's figurehead owner. Oh, by the way, they have cameras everywhere that steal our signs and "voices of the game" so they hear every word of our manager. Other than that, it's a beautiful day for baseball!

Consider the GOOPfest the 7th inning stretch. The last gasp before the final stretch run. Fortunately this year we have some great offense and the defense has been solid from the outset, but we can play by the books, have the best fundamentals and still end up losing. No instant replay and no appeal.

Thus, we need to keep on our toes and our heads in the game...even when the pitcher's batting.

Cheers!

3. Reason the chatter died
According to todays NY Times and MSNBC.com the US blew the identity of a pakistani undercover operative who was cooperating. Thats reason enough to lay low and re-organize.
