3. Great idea! Thanks for the email address.
He did great against O'Reilly. I don't think he looked nervous like others have said. He obviously has a better grasp on the facts. I will email to thank him.

17. What???? What Was THAT? What Am I, a Potted Plant?
But just to show who delivers the love and does what CW says, here's my e-mail to PK:

Mr KRUGMAN, we had an internet party over at Democratic Underground watching you outmaneuver the big blowhard. You were cool and collected under those BLUSTERY conditions.

You delivered good faith discussion and debate, while O'REILLY immediately personally attacked and was defensive and melted-down as he always does.

Thank you, thank you for standing up to that truly pernicious bully. One thing, feel NO compunction to go on his show where he WILL have control of the mic. It's another of his standard gimmicks to call people "cowards" when they refuse to go on his show, but you've showed him up when there was somewhat of a neutral ground. Thank you thank you.

My Last Duchess

.... ...Sir, 'twas not
Her husband's presence only, called that spot

Of joy into the Duchess' cheek
... ....
...She had
A heart . . . how shall I say? . . . too soon made glad,
Too easily impressed; she liked whate'er
She looked on
, and her looks went everywhere.
Sir, 'twas all one! ... ....
...all and each
Would draw from her alike the approving speech,
Or blush, at least. She thanked men,--good; but thanked
Somehow . . . I know not how . . . as if she ranked
My
gift of a nine-hundred-years-old name
With anybody's gift. ....
...Oh, sir, she smiled, no doubt,
Whene'er I passed her; but who passed without
Much the same smile?

6. You know I DO!
I write him regularly praising his dedication to exposing economic voodoo and social policy BS. He's pretty brave, extraordinarily easy to read and comprehend for us non-economics types... and he is usually right on the "money".

8. Just sent a short email.
Here's the text:

Dear Mr. Krugman:
I've been an avid reader of your columns for the past year. I don't always agree, but find your work to be thought provoking and insightful. Thank you for appearing with Bill O'Reilly and showing such self restraint and dedication to the truth. You are a truly great American.
Thank you again.

32. I think that's it. It's anger, because that person is violating you
and yet if you give them their just desert and pop them you will be judged a loony. I saw the same thing in the interview with Franken and Carlson, there was one point where Carlson actually put his hand on Franken's arm, and Franken looked like he wanted to beat him badly. Trying to maintain your composure under those circumstances is horrible. Franken was all up in Krugman's space, not just with name calling, but with waving his arms around and stuff, right up in Paul's face.

14. I think Krugman ( Yaaaay! He's our Champion!!!) was restraining
his physical body - especially every time O'R reached out and pointed, or thumped on Krugman's papers or just talked in his hateful way with his hate warped face - Krugman was all brain, mouth and eyes. He didn't use his body at all to make his case.

I noticed the papers were shaking when he read the statistical stuff about the Gore win - but if you notice the times when O'R was ranting for unlimited minutes, Krugman would take a sip from his mug, fold and refold his arms, grip his one arm with his hand, and did you see him just looking straight up at the ceiling towards the end???

He was totally frustrated and making sure he remained composed - what a stark contrast to that ranting mindless lying bully.

I'm going out tomorrow and buying two hard copies of his book.

43. I wished Krugman had a stun gun to use against O'Reilly.
I watched that, and I honestly think Bill O'Reilly is a psychopath. It was one of the more disturbing hours of television I've seen in a long time. Paul Krugman is to be commended for sitting still for that crap of O'Reilly's. Ol' Bill seems to be STILL pissed at Al Franken, I noticed. :-)

Dear Reader,
Thanks for your email. I do read all the letters and emails that are fit to print, but though I wish I could respond to all of them, that wouldn't leave me time to do anything else.
Regards,
Paul Krugman

Here's mine.

Dear Dr. Krugman,
I ended up watching yesterday's Tim Russert's program twice because the first time I forced myself to endure the arrogant bombastic ill-informed rantings of O'Reilly, my anger often distracted me from the content of the show. Having calmed down by the second viewing allowed me to focus on your excellent rebuttals to the garbage that flowed from O'Reilly's mouth. You are a courageous and gracious man to subject yourself to the lunacy of such a blowhard. I especially appreciated your often subtle rejoinders (even my sophomores..., heh, heh, which O'Reilly apparently didn't catch) as well as your more blatant responses, i.e. "quasi-murderer", which you calmly delivered devoid of the bulging veins and spitting froth that accompanied O'Reilly's comments.
I would suggest you eschew his offer to "debate" him on his show since he will no doubt "pull the mic" and/or edit sufficiently to portray you as he suggested he could portray Russert. You are above his dirty tricks. Please don't dignify his show with your presence.
I have your book and in gratitude for yesterday's show, and buying another to give to my brother.
Best regards,

I would also urge everyone to read his book: 'The Great Unraveling' (excellent title)

A collection of his columns since the idiot took office. It was a great read and one of the first to give me any hope that there really were people with important voices out there who were willing to speak up.
