5. Here is her bio from the NY Times
think she must be 53ish...

Columnist Biography: Maureen Dowd

Maureen Dowd, winner of the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for distinguished commentary, became a columnist on The New York Times Op-Ed page in 1995 after having served as a correspondent in the paper's Washington bureau since 1986. She has covered four presidential campaigns and served as White House correspondent. She also wrote a column, "On Washington," for The New York Times Magazine.

Ms. Dowd joined The New York Times as a metropolitan reporter in 1983. She began her career in 1974 as an editorial assistant for The Washington Star, where she later became a sports columnist, metropolitan reporter and feature writer. When the Star closed in 1981, she went to Time magazine.

Born in Washington D.C., Ms. Dowd received a B.A. degree in English literature from Catholic University (Washington, D.C.) in 1973.

19. "distinguished commentary" -- right...
... like all that nonsense she wrote that furthered the myth that then-first-lady Hillary Clinton had set herself up a gift registry. She should've been stripped of the Pulitzer for that dishonesty. She puts the PU in Pulitzer, that much is certain.

Dowd is nothing more than a snarky, smarmy little gasbag, and her so-called opinion pieces for the NY Times betray more than a hint of loneliness, frustration and self-loathing.

14. not so far.......after Safire spewing his BS about dumbo
not needing to disavow swifboat LIES, cause they have a right to free speech, she very WEAKLY said it was not good, but PREFACED it by mentioning those awful dems who brought up the possibility that 41 needlessly bailed on his crew way back when

she spent as much time on that as the current lie fest

and her voice is SO annoying: she's filled with ennui, apparently, as her voice, her carriage, and her lack of affect so obviously demonstrate

she's just to COOL for the room

what a waste

and what an overblown hack of a writer

embarrassing stuff they showed for excerpts

13. Be careful about knocking someone for botox
Edited on Sun Aug-08-04 10:52 AM by ikojo
injections...rumor has it that a certain presidential candidate (Kerry) has experience with the botox.

Attack her for her words and work not for any surgical enhancements. It is very tough for a woman in media to age. Women, just look at Barbara Walters who must be at least my mom's age (68), are not allowed to go gray or wrinkle a la Brokaw or Rather. No, a woman must remain forever young and preferably blonde...Don't for a minute believe that the Jewish Barbara Walters was born a blonde!

15. why NOT
you CLEARLY haven't read much, if any of her stuff

she EXISTS on that sort of personal animus

if ANYbody deserves to be trashed on the superficial details, it is SHE

make SURE you watch booknotes tonight

she looks like she used a quart of SHELLAC on her face

16. I don't care that she is criticized but I don't think the
attacks on whatever surgical work she has done brings merit to criticism of her writing. I think she sucks. She is far too mainstream for me. I prefer Barbara Ehrenreich to Mo Dowd that is for sure, but BE is far to the left so the NYT wont have her on a regular basis. Heck BE has already been replaced by Henry Louis Gates for the past week.

23. uhhhhhhh
what does one have to do with the other, please?

she's a TERRIBLE writer

she's had TONS of work done, and it shows

why is that not fit for commentary, given the INTENSELY personal nature of her attacks on Clinton, his wife, Gore, his wife, Kerry, his wife

are you not understanding what I'm saying here?
