drop out prevention in No child left behind?
I have been reading the NCLB law again due tot he fact that as a teacher I have many NCLB related experiences to relay in an article.... and, for the life of me, I can't find anything about drop out prevention.
If any of you can spot this... let me know... I only have one pair of eyes.. and it aint jumping out at me.
Maybe because it is not there... whadayathink of that?

1. I don't think it is there
Remember, Sec'y Rod Paige made his numbers look good by hiding the drop out rate. I think it's just a new version of the "soft bigotry of low expectations" (Bush's constantly used line). Let's hide the fact that so many kids are quitting school early because of the ridiculous standards but trumpet the numbers--yeah, that always works. Grr.

NCLB is terrible legislation and needs to be yanked. Let's actually figure out how to reform schools first before we force them to meet every single standard or send the kids to private schools.

2. I don't have time to prove it right now, but drop-outs/push-outs are up.
I'll hunt for some stats for you later. My advice is to look at the Boston school district for more. Also, go to Susan Ohanian's site: http://www.susanohanian.org/
She's an anti-NCLB warrior.
