Allawi extends death pentalty to drug trafficing and rape
and also for what they call, broadly, "endangering national security"...

snip>
But the decree set out several wide categories of crime that could draw a death sentence for insurgents, including "endangering national security," "crimes affecting transportation" like ambushes and hijacking, and attacks on the country's infrastructure, as well as kidnapping and murder. Along with these, the decree provided the death penalty for drug trafficking, for rape, and, in a provision that appeared to be specially drawn to cover Mr. Hussein and his associates, for any activity relating to biological or chemical warfare.

Retroactive punishment hasn't been ruled out yet. They are leaving that up to "legal experts". I'm sure Jr has some he could loan them.

1. Will there be anybody left? And it's pretty funny coming from a
gevernment headed by a guy who helped Saddam come into power in the first place. There's probably so many skeletons in this guys closet he can't find any room for his shoes.

2. How about summary executions of prisoners without trial?
What's the penalty for that?

4. I'm not a big fan of the death penalty, but...
...rape? That's a great choice for the ultimate punishment. Call me a bastard, but rape gets short shrift in terms of penalties for a major crime.

7. I bet the US funddies love this! They would like to do that here as well.
However, the fact that a "barbaric" nation like Iraq has done this will keep their heads turned.
