3. That Richard Milhouse Nixon resigned the presidency.
I remember the day well as I graduated from trade school.

6. I was 6 so I don't remember it-didn't watch it
but I do remember going over to a friends house a year or so before that and his father sitting in a dark den watching TV-a bunch of men in suits were talking about something and I asked what "Watergate" and I had no idea what that meant.

7. I don't know if you are looking for comments from
some of us old foggies who were witnesses to this, so to speak, but here goes.

Of course I had no way of taping off the tv in those days so I decided to audio tape from the radio. As our local station was waiting for the press conference to start they played music and the one I have on the tape was the theme from " Sting." I loved that song anyway but now when I hear it I always think of the day we got rid of the crook. I still have the cassette tape.

I guess I should have framed the subject line differently. Very interesting that you still have the tape.

8. And this country is still suffering his legacy...
how many old Nixon people are involved in decision making in this administration. Richard Milhouse Nixon--the gift that keeps on giving.

15. True but in today's political world Nixon would be *gasp* a liberal
or so the case can be made

EPA founded in his Presidency
Space Shuttle program began (massive spending/science)
Roe v. Wade-abortion became legal
Got us out of Vietnam (okay sort of)
Normalization of diplomatic relations with China and the Soviet Union-internationalism
SALT talks...ABM
Voting opened up to 18 year olds
FROZE PRICES-definitely not "hands off" Laissez faire type stuff
Lowered the speed limit to save gas
Clean Air/Clean Water Act?

11. I remember it
I still couldn't quite believe it was true! I was so happy. I always hated Nixon.

By the way, this O'Neill fellow who wrote the ant-Kerry book, isn't he one of Chuck Colson's goons?
