Who believes this retraction Ed Gillespie sent to factcheck.org? I don't!
It appears that the pressure got to factcheck.org and Ed Gillespie. This brief "To whom it may concern" note does nothing to calm my skepticism in regards to the RNC and factcheckorg. And I noticed something on the website:"Copyright 2004 Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania Judgments expressed are those of FactCheck.org’s staff, not the Annenberg Center" Does this mean that Annenberg is distancing itself from factcheck.org. . .if so why?

1. fact check is pretty obviously non-partisan
i don't know anything about gillespie regarding them, but they are a great resource for debunking the more ridiculous claims from either side of the aisle.

2. I disagree completely
well, almost completely...

I think Gillespie's statement was just an error, I don't think FactCheck.org is outright an RNC project.

But I also don't think it lives up to its claims about being impartial, not even close. Some of the articles are ok, but some of them are awful, and taken together, I think what the site does is create confusion, and cover up for Bush's Big Lies.

4. Factcheck is a Republican front designed to obscure the truth
by appearing non-partisan.

Look at Factcheck's conclusion in the SmearVets for Bush case:

At this point, 35 years later and half a world away, we see no way to resolve which of these versions of reality is closer to the truth.
http://www.factcheck.org/article.aspx?docID=231

By the way, they also give Bush a pass on being AWOL, failing to examine the question of whether he showed up, and repeating the Bush campaign spin "he was credited". New Evidence Supports Bush Military Service (Mostly)
