"Hannity is the only conservative on Fox." WTF?!?!?!?!?!
Okay, first some background. My wife and I were visiting an old high school friend of hers in a nearby town. This friend recently had to move back in with her parents due to a debilitating chronic illness.

Well, in talking with the parents of this woman, I was asked what I'd been doing to keep busy lately. I made the mistake of mentioning my work for the local grassroots Kerry group. This kicked off a whole big political "discussion". Thankfully, these parents aren't your typical repug screamers. But when the conversation turned toward the media, and they trotted out the tired old line about the "liberal media", I had to call them to account. And the mother actually rebutted me by claiming, "Sean Hannity is the only conservative on Fox. I don't see why you're complaining about right wing media."

I was gobsmacked. How do I reply to such unadulterated bullshit? Before anyone replies saying that I'll never change anyone who is so deeply brainwashed, let me remind you all that many people convince themselves of what to believe by willing it to be so. It works that way in religion, in politics, and even in what team you root for. So, it stands to reason you can UNconvince yourself. Right?

1. Spend nine dollars and buy the Outfoxed DVD and give it to them
I got tired of arguing with a co worker that watched Fox. Now she watches other news!

5. Should have thought of that and didn't. Thanks!....
These are basically good, but seriously misinformed and misled people. They don't seem to understand that the very "family values" guy they'll vote for is screwing them foolish and comical. Maybe a look at "Outfoxed" will sow a bit of doubt....

2. several colleagues have been stunned when I've said CNN
is RW.

They all seem to agree that FAUX is right, but they think every other TV channel is liberal.

Why? I think if everyone on a channel does not say something very positive about W and his 'deeds', they assume the channel is liberal.

7. It's good that you point that out
What I've noticed lots of conservatives do is hold up a virulently right wing media outlet and try to equate it with a basically moderate one.

For example:
I'll admit Fox is conservative if you admit CNN is liberal

They try to suggest that a basically moderate, or even conservative, voice is as liberal as a very conservative voice is conservative.

They also will sacrafice some right-wing ranter by trying to equate him with a more reasoned liberal, dragging the liberal down, like this.

I'll admit Michael Savage is embarrasing to conservatives if you admit that Al Franken is embarrasing to liberals.

4. According to Bill O'Reilly...................
Edited on Mon Aug-09-04 04:12 PM by DumpGump
that is correct. He went down the list the other night on the Russert show with Krugman. Greta=Liberal, Snow=Independent, Hume=Moderate Conservative, O'Reilly=Independent (Really, that's what he said). I think that was the run down, something like that.
So as you can see, Hannity IS the only REAL CONservative in Faux. The world according to O'Reilly.
I wonder whast color the sky is in his world?

6. O'Liely, Brit Fume, Cavuto, Ollie "Traitor" North, Fox & Fiends...
Ah yes, moderates all.

And for balance they have the far-left ravings of Greta "Commie" Van Susteren and Alan "Killer" Colmes.

9. tell them they are buying into the call of liberal media
and in future work as hard as you might to hear one positive thing said about kerry. any commentator on any channel at any time, and besides crossfire liberal or fox colmes, you will not here a single person thru out media ever say a positive thing about kerry

now with all bush lies, and mishandlings, and drop in numbers and poor preformance, even in telling a nasty story about bush always say he is a strong leader, a man of conviction, a religious christian man. no one can doubt his faith. a good ole boy. good humor

just an example. maybe they will start hearing something so simple as anything positive about kerry, they will realize how always it is dumping on kerry

that cannot be a liberal media

11. Only if "conservative"="crypto-fascist extremist".
Your friend's parents have a deeply fucked view of the world if they think "conservative" means "to the right of Attila the Hun"...
